At the West Ranch Instrumental Music Association (WRIMA), we serve the student community here on the hill by mentoring junior high school students in their journey through music education.
WRIMA was founded in January of 2023 to foster musical growth in students at Rancho Pico. After noticing that more than half of Rancho Pico's music students quit a bright future in music after 8th grade, we strived to encourage students to continue with music education by providing support through free tutoring. As we do this, we give these students early links to the high school they will be attending, helping them be more successful once they do come here to West Ranch.
WRIMA strives to foster a love of music in students who may feel discouraged by music. Here is what we do:
Mentor Training: A big part of teaching is knowing how to teach well, and during our meetings, we strive to make everyone who can play an instrument a quality teacher.
Help Sessions: This is the bulk of what we do here at WRIMA. Days are selected for after-school help sessions at Rancho Pico. These workshops have a variety of purposes, such as preparation for huge opportunities like Honor Band auditions.
Concerts: We attend Rancho Pico's concerts to encourage the students and show our intentions for their success.
Join a group of dedicated musicians in helping students understand their full musical potential. Here is how to join us:
Visit our website and fill out the New Member Application under the New Member Portal.
Attend a meeting. You can attend any meeting (check the website for dates), but you can only attend help sessions if you are a member and have attended one meeting prior to the help session.
Be sure that you know how to play an instrument that is listed on the form to some extent. You also must have been part of a band or orchestra before.
