We are currently accepting proposals!
Undergraduate students are invited to submit their research to the 50th Annual Western Pennsylvania Undergraduate Psychology Conference (WPUPC). WPUPC 2023 will take place at Thiel College in Greenville, PA on Saturday, April 29. Since 1973, WPUPC has been celebrating the scholarship and creativity of undergraduate students in the field of psychology. We look forward to continuing that strong tradition this year by providing a warm, welcoming, and inclusive space for undergraduate student researchers to share their passions.
Poster Presentations
In order to maximize our short time together and allow ample engagement between participants, poster presentations will take place during two 30-minute long designated sessions. You will be assigned to present at only ONE of the two sessions. The first poster session will be at the beginning of the day, so you should plan to arrive in enough time to check-in and set up your poster before the welcome and opening remarks if your are presenting in that session. You will remove your poster after your session to allow presenters from the second session to display their posters.
Your poster will be assigned a poster number (found in the program, when available); this number will correspond with the number on a stand/tri-fold board. During your designated set-up time, proceed to the poster area, find your number, and attach your poster to the tri-fold board. We will provide all necessary display materials for the poster session, but please note that our displays can accommodate posters no larger than 36" x 48".
There are many free, online resources available to help you design your academic research poster. While designs and approaches may (and should) vary widely, it is important that your poster is easy to navigate and able to be read from 3-4 feet away. Just as important, you are part of your poster! Prepare a brief, flexible 3-4 minute overview of your project for the attendees of the poster session.
Oral Presentations
Each oral presentation will be given 15 minutes in total - you should plan for a 10-minute presentation plus 5 minutes for questions and engagement with your audience. Laptop computers with basic software will be provided for the presentations, so please have your presentation available to show in PowerPoint (or another common software program). We suggest you plan to bring your presentation materials on a USB drive, rather than relying on access to email or Google slides, as wifi may be limited. Each oral session will have a moderator available to help load your presentation if you require assistance.
Remember that your audience will be mostly other undergraduate psychology students (of all backgrounds and levels). That is, while they will have some knowledge of psychological theories and concepts, it may not be extensive. Your presentation should be balanced between highlighting your expertise and educating your peers.
Submission Requirements
Presenters should prepare an APA-style abstract with no more 250 words. Be sure to proofread, spell check, and have your abstract approved by your faculty supervisor/sponsor before copying it into the submission form. Your abstract will appear in the conference program exactly how you submit it. Each presentation should be submitted only once by the first author.
Please be prepared with the following information:
Title, abstract, all co-author names
Type of submission: oral or poster presentation
Faculty supervisor/sponsor name and email address
Category/topic of presentation
Abstracts are due Friday, April 14, 2023.
Please Register
Students are encouraged to register for the conference at the time of submission. If there are multiple authors, each author should register individually, but only one person needs to submit the abstract.
We ask that faculty and attendees not presenting also register. As part of our 50 year celebration of WPUPC, there will be no conference registration fee this year. However, ALL participants (faculty and students) MUST register in ADVANCE online so that we may get an accurate count of attendees to arrange adequate food, parking, and seating.
The conference registration deadline is Friday, April 21, 2023. Click here for the Registration page. THERE WILL BE NO ON-SITE/DAY-OF REGISTRATION!!!
