How to set up at home for success in music!
No matter how long the lesson, or how much is covered, the actual, real learning occurs at home through regular playing of the materials covered in the lesson. So getting your home set up to support the learning at home is super important!
Needless to say, it's pretty hard to learn an instrument if you don't have one at home to practice their material & songs! If you need to buy an instrument, check out the WOW Buying Guide here on the Student App. Lots of low-cost, low-risk options. Consult the guide with your teacher for recommendations.
Tips for instrumentalists:
Make sure everything (instrument & materials) is easily accessible and right there.
Out of sight is out of mind.
If you have to climb over stuff, dig through papers, or go into the creepy basement, playing is not going to happen
Keep instruments out of their cases
Have any helpful tech nearby, such as an iPad and/or headphones, if they need to access recordings or materials
If possible, place an instrument in the place where the student plays or hangs out the most
This encourages "drive-by playing", mixing in playing music with playing with toys & games
Tips for vocalists
Singing can be very personal, so for some beginning vocalists having a private place or time to sing can be important
A private room, the shower, even the car are great places
Have any helpful tech nearby, such as an iPad and/or headphones, if they need to access recordings or materials
