Wow classic warrior leveling guide

Step-by-Step

wow classic mage leveling guide

As most of you know, leveling a Warrior in Classic isn't simple - it is almost like playing with the game on hard mode. Despite having low freedom, low maintain, and also the maximum equipment dependance from the sport, Warriors are undoubtedly the most played course in Vanilla. There's a kind of masochistic allure to leveling the toughest class in the sport. To some, this epic battle provides the purest Vanilla encounter, and watching a professional pilot this course with finesse is like watching an artist at work.

Mage Dungeon Leveling in Classic WoW

  1. Frost spells work great to kite large packs of mobs using: Blizzard, Cone of Cold, Frost Nova.

  2. Use your AoE abilities such as Arcane Explosion, Flamestrike.

  3. Stay out of melee range, use Ice Block to save yourself from dying.

  4. Provide food & drinks for your group.

There are a lot of qualified Warrior opinions out there on how to level optimally so I tried to do as much homework as possible as to not pay this community a disservice. I have reviewed the guide made by Monkeynews and Tips Out, Got Milk, Hiddeh, Braydon, Big Musk, and Orcbit. I have consulted legendary warriors with track records of speed leveling success such as Tribe and Gilnash.

This guide will simply be my attempt to put all the pieces together.

Useful Addons

Swing Timer <- Click for Link to Addon

Every melee class should have a timer that tracks both your attacks and your enemies attacks. This is important because you will need to weave both movement and abilities between cooldowns in your autos to prevent clipping into animations and missing damage.

XP / Hr Tracker <- Click for Link to Addon

Track your leveling efficiency with precision. You will have insights such as EPH (XP / Hour), EPM (XP / Minute), and Average XP per kill.

Outfitter <- Click for Link to Addon

Addon allows you to swap gear back and forth easily.

This is useful for switching into your Spirit Set

between combat to reduce regeneration downtime.

Why is A Swing Timer Important?

Before you get started leveling it is of VITAL importance that you download and setup a Swing Timer.

What is a Swing Timer?

A Swing Timer is an addon that measures the time between your weapon swings. It is useful to know this information so you can use abilities and move freely without clipping into your natural auto attack cycle and consequently losing damage. It is extremely important to have this addon as we will be using The Hamstring Method to level to 60.

While the bar is loading to full it means you can move freely - you are not wasting any damage. As it starts to fill back up this signals that your auto attack cooldown has almost reset and you should position yourself to swing again.

Start Attack Macros

Why are Start Attack Macros Important?

Start Attack Macros are important so you don’t have to manually right click mobs to attack them. You bake them into your abilities as a macro so even if you don’t have enough rage to use an ability such as “Heroic Strike” or “Mortal Strike” you will still attack the target.

The issue is /startattack commands don’t work in Classic so you have to set them up in a weird way using a script.

Place your Auto Attack on Inventory Slot ID 24 which should be the right most slot on your hidden action bar #2 (The one you accidentally shift into). Then plug the ability you want into the example macro to the right.

Example Start Attack Macro:

/cast Heroic Strike /script if not IsCurrentAction(24) then UseAction(24) end;

Warrior Specific Tips

Ideally you should only be fighting mobs that are equal level, or 1 - 2 levels below your level.

If you are at 100% HP you are probably misplaying - push your combat efficiency more!

Don’t overkill mobs with your abilities. Make sure you spend rage efficiently and pool it whenever possible.

Keep your Food + First Aid up to date! Bloodrage + Bandage to stay in combat and heal.

Have a Weapon Progression Plan!

If you see a mage, ask for stacks of food +int and tip him! (your weapon skill will likely not be maxed)

Keep a 1h + Shield on you always for shield bash interrupts.

Skip the majority of Protection skills when training - take only what is necessary. Only train Rank 1 of Thunderclap, Cleave, Overpower, Shield Bash, (damage increase / effect is negligible).

Life 1-10

If you are ever at 100% HP you are likely misplaying - push the limits of your combat efficiency.

Train First Aid + Skinning ASAP

Use whatever weapon has the highest DPS regardless of type (polearm, staff, 1h etc.)

Save every single copper - you will need money for weapon upgrades. Buy white weapons from the vendors as your money permits.

Initiate with Charge ideally but sometimes you will have to face pull as charge will be a liability.

Tab target rend if you are fighting multiple mobs. Use thunderclap if you are fighting 2+ mobs and only if they have high attack speed.

Do Defensive stance class quest.

Talents

Start with 2H Fury up to 36 for Whirlwind or wait to 40 for Mortal Strike depending on playstyle. Then respec to Arms for Mortal Strike. Proceed back through Fury finishing with 5/5 enrage.

5/5 Cruelty -> 5/5 Booming Voice -> 1/1 Piercing Howl -> 3/3 Blood Craze -> 1/5 Imp. Battle Shout -> 5/5 Enrage -> 1/1 Death Wish -> 2/2 Execute

-> 3/5 Imp. Battle Shout -> 5/5 Flurry -> Lvl 40 Respec Arms

Arms Path:

3/3 Imp. Rent -> 2/5 Deflection -> 5/5 Tactical Mastery -> 1/1 Anger Management -> 3/3 Deep Wounds -> 1/2 Overpower -> 2/2 Impale -> 2/2 Overpower -> 2/5 2H Weapon Spec -> 1/1 Sweeping Strikes -> 5/5 Axe Specialization -> 4/5 2H Weapon Specialization -> 2/2 Imp. Charge -> 1/1 Mortal Strike -> Proceed back into Fury at this point

Fury Path:

5/5 Cruelty -> 5/5 Booming Voice -> 1/1 Piercing Howl -> 3/3 Blood Craze -> 1/5 Imp. Battle Shout -> 5/5 Enrage

Life 10-20

It is most efficient at this stage to kill Single Targets as opposed to killing multiple at the same time.

Keep a 1H Shield on you starting at lvl 12 when you get Shield Bash.

At level 15 Upgrade your food to 552 hp / 24 seconds.

Skip Mocking Blow and as much as possible in the Prot tree. Only train Rank 1 of Thunderclap, Cleave, Overpower, Shield Bash, (damage increase / effect is negligible).

Life 20-40

As soon as you have Blood Craze at 21 you can start practicing sitting mid combat with a (/sit macro) which will make the mob crit you 100% of the time. This will proc Blood Craze and eventually Enrage at lvl 25.

You need to start integrating your /sit into your Hamstring Method. This is quite APM intensive but 100% worth it. Once you master this technique you will have a 25% Damage Boost with nearly 100% uptime.

At 30 do your Berserker Stance quest and use the Hamstring Method to easily kite around and kill Big Will.

If 30+ you have the support structure such as a Guild, do your Whirlwind Axe quest ASAP.

Stat Priority

Better stats on your Weapon such as DPS, Weapon Speed, or Damage Range will be more impactful than stats like Strength or Agility, however here is the base stat priority:

1 Point of DPS = 7 Strength = 14 Attack Power

Pre Level 30 (Sustain Priority)

Spirit -> Strength -> Agi -> Stamina -> Intellect

Post Level 40 (Crit is Priority)

Agi -> Strength -> Stamina -> Spirit -> Intellect
