Awareness around cosmetic animal testing

"If you want to test cosmetics, why do it on poor animals who hasn't done anything? They should use prisoners who have been convicted of murder or rape instead. So, rather than seeing if perfume irritates a bunny rabbit's eyes, they should throw it in Charles Manson's eyes and ask him if it hurts."

– Ellen DeGeneres

The opposite perspective

We walk on the surface of this earth imagining humans as a superior species. On 10th of December 1948 in Paris, the United Nations general assembly proclaimed the declaration of human rights. Some of the articles in the human rights declaration goes as follows:

Article 3.

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 4.

No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.

Article 5.

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Humanity has managed to establish these rights for human beings yet we enslave, deprive the freedom, and torture our fellow creatures on this planet, for the sake of what? Another line of eyeliners? Hairspray? Have humanity become so evil and self-centred in the industrialized world that we capture and torture animals that should live freely in the wild just so a teenage girl won’t experience an allergic skin reaction?

A human being are to be perceived innocent until proven guilty, yet we doom innocent animals for doing nothing other than existing. Corporations feel the need to conduct chemical testing of their products. Let us rather make an exception from article 5 in the human right declaration and line up some of the convicted murderers, rapists and paedophiles kept in US correctional facilities. Let us fill up a roundtable with lawyers and judges and make them write up a new form of punishment where evil humans are convicted to chemical testing and annihilate the use of innocent animals.

Join us and become a piece of our movement for protecting animal rights and destroy this practice! Sign the petition down below and share this post with friends, colleges, and family! Be the change that these animals so desperately need!

What if the roles were turned?

Would you like it if rats were trying different cosmetic products on you? Dripping dangerous perfumes in your eyes and waiting for an allergic reaction? I’m guessing not!

Herbert Spencer created the phrase “survival of the fittest” back in 1864, and some years later Charles Darwin adopted this phrase and implemented it in his natural selection theory. Humans are messing with the natural selection concept. Yes, the phrase is “survival of the fittest”, but that does not mean you are ought to break every ethic rule known to mankind.

In the United States, poor animals are being tested with different cosmetic products every day, for the single purpose of our need of make-up and perfume. It does not make sense. The European Union, Israel and India have all banned the sale of cosmetics that have been tested on animals, which is a huge step towards no testing policy, but we still got miles to go. I am not telling all of you to go vegan, that is not my point, but I am asking you to avoid products that have been tested on animals. Stand up for the little bunny.

What if we turned the roles – would you like it?

10 facts about cosmetic animal testing which you probably didn’t know.

It is no secret that animals that are used in animal testing live an unworthy life without rights. We need to speak up for those who don’t have a voice.

1. According to dosomething.org in one year, over 100 million animals are abused, poisoned, burned and crippled – this is something that happens every year and it does not seem like it is going to stop in the nearest future.

2. Dosomething.org also claims that most of the cosmetic tests performed on animals include eye and skin irritation tests – rubbing the chemicals on their shaved skin and dripping it in their eyes. Consider this the next time you put shampoo in your hair while taking a shower.

3. “In tests of potential carcinogens, subjects are given a substance every day for 2 years. Others tests involve killing pregnant animals and testing their fetuses.”

4. Even if a product is proven safe on animals, there is no guarantee that it is safe to use on humans. (See next point)

5. 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work.”

6. Instead of cosmetic animal testing, science have given us many other methods that may replace animal testing.

7. These non-animal methods are more humane and in addition to this, they are faster, cheaper, and more relevant to humans.

8. You might think that most of the experimentation conducted on animals is required by law considering the time we live in, but in fact most of it is not. This is a matter of concern.

9. The European Union have banned cosmetic animal testing. This is something that is remarkable and we can only hope that the rest will follow.

10. If we try to set humans in the animals place it would be a human rights violation on every point, what about the animal’s rights to a life?
