The Spooky season has wrapped up and it is now time to break out the Christmas tree and lights. With that being said, there’s so much to do that people naturally start to feel overwhelmed, and end up doing nothing at all. In case you need some ideas, here are 5 perfectly festive activities:
Watching Christmas Movies
Christmas movies are one of the easiest ways to get into the Christmas mood. There are several to choose from a variety of genres from classic children's movies such as Elf, Home Alone 1 and 2, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas to ones filmed during the winter time that have less of a Christmas focus such as Die Hard or even shows like Gossip Girl.
Bake Festive Desserts
Baking using seasonal ingredients is one of the best ways to enjoy the season since they are not at their best year round. You can learn a hot cocoa recipe from another country like Italy or France, bake sugar cookies in different shapes like stockings or wreaths and decorate them, or make gingerbread cookies and houses. With the latter, you can even host a gingerbread decorating competition and try to beat your friends or family.
Decorate Your House
Decorating is one of the key Christmas activities and you are free to decorate the entire house, or even just your room. One of the key ways to decorate is pull out your Christmas tree and put tinsel and ornaments all over it. There are also ways to do this for very cheap if you are not allowed to decorate the entire house. Stores such as Dollarama and Michael’s have affordable decorations that are nicer than you would initially expect. Additionally you can make decorations which ties into another must-do activity.
Do Festive Crafts
One of the best ways to unwind from the stress of December that comes right before exams is a creative activity. You can knit a scarf or make Christmas ring holders or even coasters. This fits in with the previously mentioned idea of making Christmas decor and it is yet another accessible way to appreciate the season.
Go Enjoy the Cold
Snow is not present all year round so we must take advantage when it’s there. Ice skating is a great activity. There are numerous ice rinks around Ontario but one of the cheaper ones is the public rink in Toronto that runs from December to January. You can also make snowmen or have snowball fights with friends which is a surprisingly fun activity that requires no money (just mittens and some friends to do it with).
Conclusion
Overall, there are plenty of ways to make the most of winter from the foods you consume to the decorations you make. Each one can be adapted to your budget and friend group so you can fully enjoy the season!
