At the World Languages Learning Center (WLLC), you can improve your skills in the foreign language you are learning, check out videos for classroom learning, or browse our library of foreign books and magazines. There are also individual booths where you can use the Internet to find material. As a member of a foreign language class, you are also able to print a limited amount of material.
Graduates with language backgrounds possess a resource for continuing intellectual growth and personal fulfillment, a passport for moving easily within the world community and its diverse cultures, and a practical tool for earning a living. Programs in the Department of World Languages concentrate on the acquisition of language and knowledge of the cultures that the language expresses.
The Department of World Languages offers students with prior language experience the option to take a placement/challenge test and options to receive credit for prior learning. We encourage all students with existing language skills to consider minoring or majoring in their language.
Teachers and students participate in the Pathways Project and come from different fields of study and schools across the globe to create open, digital activities that support the teaching and learning of world languages and promote intercultural competence.

DU requires language courses as part of the Common Curriculum. Our first-year experience helps undergraduate students to complete their language requirements and supports full- and part-time faculty who teach language courses.

The World Language Institute offers a range of world language classes in either an in-person, on-campus teaching mode, or online both using creative, interactive methods. There is some flexibility in recognizing student self-pacing, enrollment options, and freedom to progress. The in-person, on-campus classes include these world languages: Chinese, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Latin, Portuguese, and Russian. The National Heritage Language Resource Center is funded by the Department of Education's Title VI. NHLRC's mission is to develop effective pedagogical approaches that address the needs of heritage language learners, by creating a research base and pursuing curriculum design, materials development, and teacher education to support heritage language learners in becoming highly proficient bilinguals.
The center offers a variety of programs for language communities and educators including summer language classes in less commonly taught languages spoken in the Los Angeles area, a Russian proficiency exam for high school students, online script courses, and online heritage language teacher development workshops.

Explore the sessions that are aligned with the TELL domain connected to your goal. For example, if your goal is centered around giving feedback, look at the sessions in the domain of Performance and Feedback and plan to view those that align with your goal. Check to see if a featured speaker addressed an aspect of your goal. Consider how listening to student voices might add a different perspective. The advantage of an online conference is the ability to pick and choose sessions that seem most appropriate knowing that you can exit a session that is not meeting your needs and easily select another session that may be more appropriate.
