The short version. Everything you log — exercises, sets, weights, notes and GPS routes — is stored only on your phone. There is no account, no server of ours, and none of it is ever sent to us or to anyone else.
The app connects to the internet for exactly two things: downloading map tiles when you look at a route, and requesting the ads that keep the app free. Those two services see your device’s IP address, and the ad network may use an advertising identifier. Your training data is never part of either request.
Workout Tracker is developed and published by androrandomtech. For anything concerning this policy or your privacy, write to androrandomtech@gmail.com.
Because the app has no account system and no backend of ours, we never receive your data in the first place — which also means we cannot read it, restore it, or delete it on your behalf. You are the only one holding it.
Your training log — the exercises you use, and each set you record: amount, optional weight, optional note, date and time.
GPS activities — for runs and rides you choose to record: the route (a series of coordinates), distance, duration and pace.
Preferences — theme, reminder time, onboarding state and similar settings.
All of this lives in a private database inside the app’s own storage area, which no other app on the phone can read. Android’s automatic cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are deliberately switched off for this app, so your training data is never uploaded to a cloud account without you asking.
Location is used only while you are actively recording a run or a ride, and only to draw and measure that route. It is recorded through a foreground service, so a notification is visible the whole time tracking is running.
Your coordinates are written to the local database and stay there. They are not sent to us, not sent to the ad network, and not used to target advertising. The app does not request background location access and cannot follow you when you have not started an activity yourself.
The app is free and is funded by advertising served through Google AdMob. Ads appear as a small banner above the tab bar, and occasionally as a single full-screen ad after you finish a recorded run or ride.
To select and measure those ads, Google may collect and process data such as your device’s advertising identifier, IP address, device information, and interactions with the ads themselves. This processing is carried out by Google under its own terms; see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy.
None of your exercises, sets, notes, routes or coordinates are ever included in an ad request.
Your choices. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent before any ad is requested, using Google’s consent form. You can review or change that choice at any time from Settings › Ad privacy choices inside the app. Independently of that, Android lets you reset or delete your advertising identifier and switch off ad personalisation entirely, from your system settings (usually Settings › Privacy › Ads).
When a route is displayed, the map background is downloaded from OpenFreeMap, based on OpenStreetMap data. Requesting those tiles reveals your device’s IP address and the area of the map being viewed to that provider. Your recorded route is drawn locally on top of the map and is never uploaded.
Permission
Why
Location (precise / approximate)
To record the route, distance and pace of a run or ride you start yourself.
Foreground service (location)
To keep recording accurately while the screen is off, with a visible notification.
Notifications
For the optional daily training reminder and the ongoing tracking notification.
Internet / network state
To download map tiles and to request ads. Nothing else.
Advertising ID
Added by the Google Mobile Ads SDK, used to select and measure ads.
The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting and no usage tracking of any kind. We have no way of knowing how many people use it or what they do inside it.
Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You are in control at all times:
Settings › Delete all workout data erases every logged set and custom exercise immediately.
Uninstalling the app removes the whole database with it. Since there is no cloud copy, nothing survives anywhere else.
Settings › Export backup writes a single JSON file to a location you choose, so you can move your history to another phone. What happens to that file afterwards is entirely up to you.
Workout Tracker is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over your personal data. For the data this app holds, those rights are exercised directly on your device: you can view, edit, export and delete everything from inside the app, without asking anyone.
For the data processed by Google in connection with advertising, please refer to the Google Privacy Policy linked above; Google acts as an independent controller for that processing.
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Meaningful changes will also be described in the app’s release notes on Google Play.
