A backreference allows a previously matched subexpression to be identified subsequently in the same regular expression. The following table lists the backreference constructs supported by regular expressions in .NET. For more information, see Backreference Constructs.
First, I put (^\s+) to make sure it starts with a full word, otherwise "child's steak" would go to "child'steak" (the "s"'s would match). Then, it matches all full words ((\b\S+\b)), followed by an end of string ($) or a number of spaces (\s+), the whole repeated more than once.
To find duplicate words that have no leading or trailing non whitespace character(s) other than a word character(s), you can use whitespace boundaries on the left and on the right making use of lookarounds.
I'm going to be studying at a Japanese university this semester (I leave soon) and I was curious about learning some more slang or other common language used by other college kids over there. Pretty much anything from idioms to common shortenings of words that might not appear in textbooks, casual greetings, slang words with double meanings, "bad words" or even insults would be helpful. Also don't worry, I don't plan on using anything I might learn in a crude or improper way, or to try to show off or anything lol. Just trying to take some preparatory steps for when I find myself hearing unfamiliar phrasing and casual speech I haven't heard in classroom setting.
In the table above, each construct in the left-hand column is shorthand for the character class in the right-hand column. For example, \d means a range of digits (0-9), and \w means a word character (any lowercase letter, any uppercase letter, the underscore character, or any digit).
