AI Word Game Competition

You may have competed with others to solve the daily Wordle puzzle. How about competing on an artificial intelligence application to solve a series of Wordle-like puzzles?

How does the competition work? We’re providing a Wordle-like game in several computer languages to serve as a standard game server. @wordleywizards will tweet the information for a game session. You run your application, get the results and post them on social media with the hash tag #wordleywizards. You can also submit the results with Game Session Form. We’ll collect and post them on this website.

You can use any environment (language, operating system, and so forth). Students and professionals are encouraged to join in.

You can also post videos of your application in action. We are planning on holding some zoom webinars where you can reveal as much or little of the inner workings as you demonstrate your application.

You can make up your own training and competition files and challenge your friends. You may select a game set and number of words, or you could create your own word files.

Sponsors

Organizations can sponsor prizes in various categories, such as pre-high school, high school, and so forth. The sponsored competitions will use a web service as the game program and a different set of words. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please submit the Sponsor Form. If you are interested in participating in a sponsored competition, please submit a Team Form and you’ll be notified when one is scheduled.

The Details

The details on how to execute the game program are in AI Word Game Competition Details. The first word file for training and competition is words002.txt. For the initial competition, randomly selected words will be used. In later sessions, different training and competition files will be used. The first competition is:

The game programs are found at the links below. A sample client program shows to execute the game program. You are free to incorporate the game program into your application.

If you have any suggestions for changes in the game programs or different word lists, submit them with the Program Form.

Note that some of the program files have .txt suffixes to allow downloads. Remove the .txt suffix after downloading.
