Koritni – ‘Long Overdue’

(Verycords)

Koritni are always reliable to produce quality records and with their long overdue sixth album entitled exactly that; they have produced another enjoyable slice of booze-soaked swaggering Hard Rock. They have a flavour to their style which is very Australian and you can hear touches of Rose Tattoo, Airbourne and other Aussie hard rockers in their sound. That said I think fans of Aerosmith and The Black Crowes will thoroughly enjoy this album, lots of Blues mixed in amongst the guitar swagger.

It’s a very energetic album full of swagger and grit and I do find myself drawn to some of the more melodic choruses in amongst the dirty rock and roll. It’s not going to win prizes for originality and its nothing supreme but it’s just genuine down to earth enjoyable rock and roll. It’s hard to not like these songs they have a quality to them that gets under your skin that leaves you smiling and singing along.

Lex Koritni’s voice has a little bit of grit to it which makes me think of lots of bluesy singers but it’s not so dirty that he can’t hold a solid melody which makes songs like ‘Bone For You’ and ‘Born To Lose’ so memorable. Tom Fremont’s swaggering guitars have so much energy to them they make all these songs make you want to move to the groove; I’m sure the like of Joe Perry would be jealous of some of the riffs he lays down here.

One of my favourites is ‘Tonight’ which is an intense rocker with a sing-along chorus and some indelible guitar riffs that make this song get repeated on every album spin. The strength of this album though means I’m sure everyone will have their own favourites for different reasons whether it’s to low slung swagger of the title track ‘Long Overdue’ or the energising effect of ‘No Strings Attached’. I’m sure the Aerosmith sounding ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ will have its fans too; this track could have easily sat on any of the bands Eighties or Nineties output.

‘Long Overdue’ is a solid hard rocking album with some strong standout moments and plenty of memorable choruses destined to indent themselves on your consciousness. It’s full of rock and roll energy that should hit Hard Rock fans in all the right places, best served with whiskey and high volume!
