TEACHER BIO

Hi! My name is Mihir Patel, and I teach Computer Science at Wood County. I'm very excited to be teaching your children this year and to see them grow as individuals and in their knowledge!

I have taught at Wood County since 2012, beginning as a Business Ed and the Middle and High School Computers teacher. In 2015, I had the privilege of being assigned as the department head for the new Computer Science program. Originally, Computer Science was a STEM Program at Wood County, which means it wasn't really part of the school curriculum, but part of BOCES instead. When we first started the department, we only had about 4 classes. Since then, we have hired another Computer Science teacher and have 11 total classes in the department, 2 of which are AP classes. A new filming/TV Studio was also built, which allowed us to launch our new morning announcements in 2019, the Wood County Word. I'm so amazed at all of the things we have added on to over the past 10 years to help shape the Computer Science program to what it is today!

I am originally a native of Westfield, New York, which is all the way across in Western New York! I earned my Bachelor's degree in General Ed from UB in 2008 and my Master's degree in Computer Science in 2012 from the California Institute of Technology, earning my K-12 Teaching Certification the same year. I was fortunate enough to apply for an opening here and was hired here teaching Business Ed and Middle and High School Computers. I now teach Computer Science, coordinate the morning announcements and help out with the technology department as the Technology Integrator and STEM Director, and I also am in charge for the publication of the school yearbook.
