Sam Constantini is a renowned proofreader and author who turned down multiple big job opportunities to do what he loves most, teaching Middle School English. He earned his Bachelor's in English Ed from SUNY Oswego and his Master's from Yale. Sam first began teaching High School English for the Honeyoe Falls-Lima School District in 2014 before coming to Wood County in 2020, where he discovered his true love and passion for teaching 7th Grade English. His students have won several awards for outstanding spelling achievements and superb literacy and reading comprehension skills. Every day he teaches, he motivates his students to always do their best and to let them know that he is there to catch them if they fall.
My classroom policy applies to some of the most crucial life lessons there are out there-always try your hardest. I never fail a kid who tries, even if their skills may be subpar. It is very difficult to fail my English class, where you have to physically try in order to fail. My job as a teacher is to prepare my students to do good in life, inspire others, and make some lasting legacies in their lifetime. English Class isn't for everyone, which is why I try to reduce the amount of stress put on the kids as much as possible. Sure, they are graded on their overall performance and completion of an assignment, but it all comes down to their effort, participation, and dedication. Every student has potential, and having the additional stress if they did poorly or didn't get an assignment done on time can affect their learning experience and class performance. I very seldom assign homework, which will only ever consist of finishing chapters of a book we didn't get done in class. I also believe that students have lives outside of school, and homework shouldn't have to interfere with that or cause a burden on their personal time. In the 80 minutes we spend together every other day, I believe we are capable of doing more than what we need to do each day to set them up for the future and meet the NYS Standards and above.
I'm not just here to teach English or to help you after school. I'm here to get to know you and to help you through any other problems you may have. Being a teacher isn't just about instruction of one subject, it's to help mentor all of you as people too. If you have any questions, or just want to chat, stop by my room, and I'll be happy to suit your needs!
