BRIEFLY BREATHLESS

Briefly Breathless is presented as part of

Steppenwolf’s LookOut Series.

WONDROUS STRANGE

Our name comes from Hamlet. Referring to the ghost of Hamlet's father, Horatio says, "O day and night, but this is wondrous strange." This is an essential moment in Western theatre: a ghost haunts Hamlet, makes him swear revenge, and sets the events of the play in motion. At once magical, disorienting, and thrilling, it's everything theatre should be.

Wondrous Strange seeks to explore theatre that experiments with space, form, and storytelling. We will ask questions without having the answers . We love theatre that electrifies. We want our theatre wild, wondrous, and strange.

Briefly Breathless started with core questions:

Through multiple workshops and a four-week rehearsal process, we investigated our fears, resilience, and how to work with giant sheets of plastic. We even jumped into Lake Michigan in 35-degree weather. All of us.

This piece celebrates the individual risks we take and the communities we build when we go beyond what we think possible.
