• wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross: Strengths lie in its ultra-lightweight 9-pound design and matte powder-coated finish for lifetime rust resistance; the trade-off is a single-bolt clamping system that relies on high-hardness plastic end supports. This pick is for the Kona owner who prioritizes fuel efficiency and minimal wind noise during spirited driving or track events.
• This pick is for the Santa Fe owner carrying heavy cargo boxes, multiple bikes, or kayaks where absolute rigidity matters more than saving a few pounds.
The wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross is built with a singular focus on the Hyundai Kona platform, specifically targeting the 2018 through 2023 models, including the sporty Kona N and the Electric variant. What stands out immediately in the specifications is the deliberate engineering choice to keep weight down while maintaining structural integrity. This low mass is not just a number on a spec sheet; it translates directly to how the vehicle handles. When you are taking your car to a track day or pushing the limits on a winding backroad, every ounce of added weight on the roof affects the center of gravity and the vehicle's agility. The wonderdriver bars minimize this impact, allowing the Kona to retain its nimble character even when loaded.
The construction materials tell a story of durability without bulk. The surface treatment is equally important for long-term owners; the black matte powder coating is advertised as offering anti-rust protection for the entire lifetime of the product. This is crucial for those who live in areas with harsh winters or coastal humidity. Unlike painted finishes that chip and fade, this powder coat bonds to the metal, protecting the underlying aluminum from corrosion. The end supports, made from high-quality plastics with ultra-high hardness, are designed to resist deformation and corrosion, providing a durable interface between the bar and the car's flush side rails.
For the driver who values a quiet cabin, the aerodynamic profile design is a key selling point. The shape is engineered to slice through the air, effectively minimizing drag and reducing wind noise. This is particularly relevant for daily commuters who spend hours on the highway or for track enthusiasts who want to hear the engine notes clearly without the roar of a bulky rack screaming against the wind. The installation process is described as an "absolute breeze," aided by clear labeling on the components. The package includes everything needed for a secure fit: mounting bases, screws, spare parts, tools, and instructions. The tie-down loops on the base feet allow for securing items, and the upgraded metal mechanism lock and key system ensures your gear stays put and safe from theft.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you are driving a vehicle other than the specific Hyundai Kona lineup mentioned, this rack will not fit. Furthermore, while the 300-pound weight capacity is impressive for a lightweight bar, the reliance on plastic end supports means you should be mindful of extreme stress points. It is best suited for standard luggage, light camping gear, or sports equipment where the load is distributed evenly. It is a perfect match for the Kona owner who wants to add utility without compromising the car's sleek lines or performance characteristics.

Designed specifically for the 2024 through 2027 models, including the Hybrid, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy trims, this rack is built to handle significant weight and rough conditions. The most defining feature of the Deepace system is its upgraded dual-screw clamping mechanism. While many competitors rely on a single bolt to secure the mounting base to the raised side rails, Deepace uses two reinforced bolts per base. This creates a significantly tighter clamp, which minimizes shake and wind movement even during long highway drives or when navigating uneven terrain. For a driver transporting heavy cargo, this reduction in vibration is critical for the safety of both the load and the vehicle's roof.
This capability is achieved through dual internal reinforcement ribs inside each aluminum bar, enhancing structural stability. The bars are constructed from all-aluminum bases and crossbars, with only the end caps made of ABS plastic to reduce weight slightly without sacrificing core strength. This design allows users to safely carry large rooftop cargo boxes, multiple bicycles, kayaks, canoes, snowboards, and extensive camping gear. The dual aluminum trapezoidal tie-down loops on each bar end provide secure anchor points for straps, adding an extra layer of stability that prevents shifting during transit.
Noise management is another area where the Deepace rack excels, given its size and purpose. The aerodynamic tube design is intended to reduce wind resistance and road noise, keeping the cabin peaceful for family conversations or children resting in the back seat. Rubber pads ensure a tight fit while protecting the factory rails from scratches, and plastic-dipped contact brackets add further protection to the roof rack system. The inclusion of a two-year warranty adds a layer of confidence for buyers, signaling that the manufacturer stands behind the durability of the dual-bolt design and the aluminum construction.
This product is ideal for families who treat their Santa Fe as a workhorse for outdoor adventures. If you regularly load up the roof for weekend getaways, ski trips, or moving large items, the Deepace rack provides the peace of mind that comes with a rigid, double-bolted connection. It is also worth noting that this rack is strictly for vehicles with raised side rails; it will not fit SE trim models or bare-roof versions. The compatibility is precise, ensuring that the heavy-duty clamping mechanism engages correctly with the specific rail profile of the 2024+ Santa Fe. However, if you prioritize the absolute lowest possible weight or have a smaller crossover like the Kona, the bulk and specific fitment of this rack make it a poor choice.
• Best for Track Days and Performance Driving → Wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross. Its 9-pound weight and aerodynamic profile ensure minimal impact on the Kona's handling and center of gravity, making it superior for spirited driving scenarios.
With a 330-pound capacity and internal reinforcement ribs, it can safely carry much heavier items like large cargo boxes or multiple kayaks compared to the 300-pound limit of the wonderdriver.
The dual-screw clamping system offers superior resistance to shaking and wind movement compared to the single-bolt design of the wonderdriver.
• Best for Rust Resistance and Longevity → Wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross. The black matte powder coating is explicitly marketed for lifetime anti-rust protection, whereas the Deepace focuses on aluminum construction with ABS end caps.
• Best for Fuel Efficiency → Wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross.
The emphasis on a quiet ride, combined with the ability to securely haul large amounts of gear, makes it more suitable for long-distance family travel.
• Best Fit for Flush Rails → Wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross. Specifically engineered for the flush side rails of the Kona, whereas the Deepace requires raised side rails found on the Santa Fe.
The inclusion of a two-year warranty and dual-bolt stability provides a robust solution for those who need a rack that can withstand years of heavy use.
The dual-screw clamping mechanism and 330-pound load capacity offer a level of security that is essential when carrying valuable or heavy gear over long distances. The peace of mind provided by the reinforced structure and the two-year warranty outweighs the slight weight penalty. However, if I were taking my Hyundai Kona to a track day or prioritizing the absolute lightest possible setup to maintain the car's agility, I would opt for the wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross. Its specialized fit for flush rails and low-profile design make it the smarter choice for performance-oriented drivers who do not need to haul massive loads. Ultimately, the right choice depends entirely on whether you value raw hauling power and stability or lightweight aerodynamics and track-ready performance.
No, neither product is designed for bare roofs. Always verify your vehicle's rail type before purchasing.
Both racks feature aerodynamic designs to minimize noise, but the wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross is likely quieter due to its lighter weight and lower profile, which reduces overall drag.
The wonderdriver Roof Rack Cross does not list a specific warranty period in the provided data, though it emphasizes lifetime anti-rust protection via its powder-coated finish. Check the current listing details for the latest warranty terms.
Yes, both manufacturers state that installation is straightforward. The wonderdriver kit includes clear labels and tools, while the Deepace kit comes with step-by-step instructions and hardware. Both are designed for DIY installation, though having a second person to assist with positioning the bars can make the process easier.
