Charlie B. Barkin
Charlie B. Barkin is a hustler, gambler, drinker, and also guardian angel. He’s had a very chaotic life, but is on a path (or one he tries tot ake) to redemption in order to better himself in the world. Is he successful? That’s up for debate, but it would be a lie for him not to say he doesn’t try to at least have a little bit of fun every now and again.
Charlie’s early life is unknown. He was born to Burt R. Barkin and Loni A. Bowzer on September 13, 1937. At some point in his childhood, he ran away from home and his parents never saw him again.
Eventually, he meets Itchy Itchiford and the two have been best friends ever since. Charlie and Carface Carruthers became good friends and opened up a casino together called Charlie and Carface’s.
Charlie left the business, but returns after escaping from the New Orleans Dog Pound. Carface tells him it is time to part ways in the business, and eventually convinces him. Carface and his associates throw a party for him during Mardi Gras wishing him happiness and success in future endeavors. Charlie is taken to a dock where Killer, Carface’s weak-willed accomplice, puts a blindfold on him while drunk claiming they have an ultimate surprise for him. As the surprise, they end up murdering him afterwards by hitting him with a vehicle pushed off the dock. He is immediately sent to heaven and meets Annabelle, a Purple / Pink Whippet angel, and the head of Heaven. He tricks her and rewinds his “life watch” and is sent back to Earth with the intentions to seek revenge on Carface.
VERSES
V: Canon Verse.
While technically this verse is what I usually try to stick by, I have my own fluctuations with it. This is what you need to know: This takes places between the start of the first All Dogs Go To Heaven movie until just after the ending of it. I do not consider the second movie, Christmas Special, or TV series for when I write Charlie in this verse. Maybe a little, but it is not the focus on my writing.
V: Young and Naive Verse.
This verse takes place before the events of the first movie. Basically, think everything from his time of birth all the way to when he escapes the New Orleans dog pound at the beginning of the movie (which in total spans close to two years).
V: The Life Beyond Verse.
This verse deals with Charlie after the events of the first movie and is when Charlie roams Heaven as a helper and a Guardian Angel to different kids and people on Earth. Is not canon and is a slight AU of how I can play my cards.
V: Zootopia Verse.
This verse is entirely AU, but does take into consideration the events of the first movie and Charlie’s past dealings. This verse focuses on Charlie being the head of a successful casino, helping run some more shady business (weapons, drugs, money) on the side with an occasional run in with the mob. However, he has been caught before by the ZPD and is slowly, but surely, changing his ways to become for the better. However, he is still stuck into the dealings he has and is sucked back into his nefarious (and sneaky) ways.
V: Demon with a Crooked Halo Verse.
This verse is actually more “backwards” in terms of Charlie’s personality and what happened after the events of the first movie. So, what does this mean? This means that Charlie, though he saved Anne Marie, was not able to be allowed back into Heaven due to what he had done and his past being looked into more closely, being shut down by the higher ups of Heaven named Chief (the one who overrules Annabelle/Whippet Angel in certain scenarios). Charlie, instead, was sent to hell and is forced to be there for the rest of his days and is a “backwards” Guardian Angel as a Demonic Hound, causing chaos and havoc with people on Earth instead of helping. That being said, Charlie still has some good trapped inside of him, even with his old habits reappearing in heavy numbers and most of his good deeds thrown out the window, to be replaced by a more evil side. Again, there is a good side trapped in there somewhere, but you’d have to dig deep to get it out. Point being, he’s Charlie but entirely reversed and as a demonic hound. Just think to what he was prior to dying to Carface the first time in the movie. Like that, just way worse.
V: Toon Verse.
Think of this verse like Who Framed Roger Rabbit? in terms of that he’s a toon that is self-aware and knows what’s going on. Basically, toons are in the real world and are actors/actresses. All WFRR? rules apply in this verse.
V: Bones and Treasure Verse.
Well, how do I describe this? TLDR: Charlie is a anthropomorphic pirate that roams the seas as his own captain, with a crew, or fights alongside another nation (such as the British, French, Spanish, USA, etc.). Mainly be like Zootopia verse, but on the high seas and can also interact with other animals that acquire this characteristic of being anthropomorphic, but can also be among humans. Just a giant pirate verse where Charlie can be a Jack Sparrow rip-off, or a Royal Navy Captain. May never use this, but I think it could prove to be a lot of fun regardless!
V: On the Right Side of the Law Verse.
This verse is the alternative reality of what would have happened if Charlie had stayed with his parents and hadn’t run away from them growing up. He is enlisted in the police dog academy in New Orleans and becomes a fresh new recruit on the force as a police dog. Despite having little experience, Charlie starts to prove he is one the better new recruits on the force, which leads to some disdain from some of the older and experienced hounds. While it leads to some rough times for Charlie, he prevails, and shows everyone why he is valued to be on the force in the first place.
V: Modern AU Verse.
This one is pretty straightforward, where Charlie is now living in our modern world. While he may or may not be a Guardian Angel in this verse, as that is to be determined at the time of writing for this verse, it allows him to be more acquainted with our everyday life, but still able to interact with the world and people around him. It’s basically just Charlie adapting to what we know as our world today.
V: The Texas Cattle Rush Verse.
This verse is one where Charlie and Duke, his first best friend from when he was young, had run off west to Texas to become cattle ranching dogs. While it’s apparent neither of them are any good at their jobs yet, they are both still learning and learning fast. This verse also allows Charlie to interact with the other animals that you may find on a cattle farm (such as other hounds, cattle, etc.) and is basically Charlie living life out on a farm. More peaceful, somewhat more relaxed, but a lot more cattle to deal with.
