Graphing Equations using Technology

Objective

What is a function & how is it different from an equation?

Definition: A function is a relation between a set of inputs and outputs where, for every input, there is one (and only one) output. In other words, a function is a relation where every input has only one output.

Functions are typically solved for the dependent variable (y) and instead written as f(x) to emphasize the output is dependent on x.

If the vertical line crosses the graph more than once, it is not a function.

♦ Today we will explore a graphing utility at Desmos.com

Desmos is a powerful graphing utility that is free for teachers and students to use. Not all graphing utilities can graph equations that are not functions and not solved for y... Desmos can graph equations, functions, points, etc.  Have Fun Exploring!!!
