Satellite workshop of Interspeech 2025, in conjunction with SLaTE 2025
22-24 August, 2025, Radboud University, Nijmegen
The 7th Workshop on Child Computer Interaction (WOCCI 2025) will take place in Nijmegen on August 22, 2025, in conjunction with the 10th Workshop on Speech and Language Technology in Education (SLaTE 2025). Both workshops will span two days, with an additional third day for social activities, providing ample opportunities for networking and collaboration.
WOCCI 2025 aims to unite together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry focused on child-machine interaction, including computer, robotics and multi-modal interfaces. Children are unique at both the acoustic/linguistic level and the interaction level. WOCCI provides a unique opportunity for bringing together different research communities in diverse fields—cognitive science, computer vision, robotics, speech processing, linguistics, and applications in medicine and education— to connect and collaborate.
Participants can showcase innovative systems that will shape the future of child-centred computer interaction. As we face increasing challenges in education and health, technology plays a crucial role in supporting the well-being of our society. Noticeable examples are remedial treatments for children with or without disabilities and individualized attention. TWOCCI will be a platform for sharing the latest advancements in core technologies, experimental systems, and prototypes.
Call for papers
We are pleased to welcome you to Interspeech and invite you to participate in the first-ever joint hosting of WOCCI and SLaTE. This collaborative event provides a valuable opportunity to explore the significant overlaps between the two workshops and to take part in shaping the future of WOCCI workshops. This year’s joint hosting highlights the intersections of speech technology, education, and child-machine interaction, fostering a platform for interdisciplinary research and meaningful cross-disciplinary dialogue. By participating, you can help enrich discussions and contribute to advancing innovation and understanding in these fields.
Please submit your papers through CMT at this link: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/WOCCI2025/Submission/Index.
Papers are solicited on any technical areas relevant to the workshop. The technical scope of the workshop includes, but is not limited to:
Speech Interfaces: acoustic and linguistic analysis of children's speech, discourse analysis of spoken language in child machine interaction, age-dependent characteristics of spoken language, automatic speech recognition for children and spoken dialogue systems
Multi-modality and Robotics: multi-modal child machine interaction, multi-modal input and output interfaces, including robotic interfaces, intrusive, non-intrusive devices for environmental data processing, pen or gesture/visual interfaces
User Modelling: user modelling and adaptation, usability studies accounting for age preferences in child machine interaction
Cognitive Models: internal learning models, personality types, user-centred and participatory design
Application Areas: training systems, educational software, gaming interfaces, medical conditions and diagnostic tools
The technical committee will select papers for oral/poster presentation.
In line with the theme of Interspeech 2025, Fair and Inclusive Speech Science and Technology, the proposed workshop will address the limitations and advances of speech technology and speech science, focusing on child speech. Furthermore, the session will aid in the mutual development of speech technology and speech science for child speech, while benefiting and bringing both the communities together.
The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.
