The Gandhigram Rural Institute

(Deemed to be University, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GoI)

Re-Accredited by NAAC with 'A' Grade (3rd cycle)

Gandhigram - 624 302, Tamilnadu.

About the Institute

The Gandhigram was started in the year 1947 by Dr. G. Ramachandran and Dr. T. S. Soundram, who spent major part of their life with Gandhiji during freedom fighting. The Gandhigram Rural Institute is the only one which survives among eleven rural institutes started under Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The Gandhigram Rural Institute is fully funded by MHRD, Govt. of India and is quite active on both campus and in rural areas of the surroundings. Besides, its contribution to teaching and research, the institute applies the experience from both scientific and social researech to solve contemporary rural problems. The three dimensional approach of teaching, research and extension has won national recognition and the status of Deemed to be University in 1976. The Institute was accredited with five stars by NAAC in 2002 and reaccredited with ‘A’ Grade in 2nd and 3rd cycles. It is also graded as ‘A’ - grade Deemed to be University by MHRD, Govt. of India.
