The 4 Things You Must Do To Succeed In Network Marketing

If you are reading this article than you are probably just like me, you have tried several, if not many, MLM, network marketing and affiliate marketing businesses or programs. I got started in 1995 with Excel. This was before the Internet was in every home so meetings, the good old "3 foot rule" (talk to ANYBODY you come within 3 feet of each and every day of your life) and "old fashioned" networking were how you built your business. After a not so profitable experience with Excel I stayed away from networking marketing companies for several years. (Excel later simply closed its doors one day and disappeared) This did not help the MLM, network marketing industry.

In the late 90's I got my first pc and an internet connection and thought I was ready to take on the world and make a fortune with my online network marketing business. Oh boy! I tried AmeriPlan, Pre Paid Legal, Melaleuca, Xocai, XanGo and many more. If I wasn't rich in a month or two then this just wasn't the "right one" I would tell myself. I wasted a lot of money and time; I thought if I threw enough money at multi level marketing I could make it work. I was wrong and it cost me dearly. You see there was still some very important "secrets" I had not yet learned about building a successful online business.

You see, after all these years I was still not the person I NEEDED to be in order to be a network marketing success. There was the issue of running a business, I "managed" my MLM companies just like I managed my money in a Las Vegas casino… eventually I would get lucky… or so I thought. The sad part in looking back is that I did in fact network with some quality people, some of them are still my friends today, however I was blinded by huge dollar signs so I didn't nurture these relationships or myself.

I know what you are thinking… I should have been buying Think And Grow Rich, The Master Key System, Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude; you know all the books. Well, I did get them and sometimes I would actually read a few chapters, I would become so excited I would stop reading then not practice what I was taught. This of course resulted in disappointment after disappointment.

So the point I am trying to make here is that it wasn't until I became laser focused about where I was and what I wanted to accomplish that I started to see success. It was slow at first of course; will we ever get what we want fast enough in this day and age? Well there is a way to make network marketing work for you, here are my suggestions:

Write down your goals and update them regularly. I heard it all my life and never did it but once I did things changed in every area of my life. I found Brian Tracy to be the best for me, he called things like they were and didn't confuse me with the whole law of attraction movement. Don't get me wrong, I believe in "a" law of attraction but simply thinking about what I wanted without any wm action was not going to get anything done. Make sure you read your goals several times a day, writing them several times a day is even better.

Understand that it WILL take TIME and EFFORT. As they say, treat your MLM business like you spent a million dollars on it rather than a few hundred and you will probably put a lot more of yourself into it. Unfortunately we have all heard the stories about "Joe Smith" who joined "XYZ Company", was only able to sponsor 2 people and one day woke up to find he was worth a fortune. Let me assure you, he most definitely is the exception, a very rare one at that, NOT the rule. So many people jump into their MLM business and expect to be a success overnight. I cannot stress enough that it will take some time and consistent effort. Stay the course, do things that build your business CONSISTENTLY. I mean do it every single day, you know the 80/20 Rule right? Well it's true.

Become and stay friends with everyone you meet. Whether online or in person this is crucial to your success. When I first started in network marketing, unless a person was going to join my business I didn't think there was a reason to spend time chatting with them, I ignored the fact that it's called network marketing for a reason. Don't make that mistake. Enjoy talking to the people who come in and out of your life. I am truly amazed at how many people I thought I would never talk to again, end up coming back into my life. It may be days, weeks, months or years but stay in this industry long enough and you will start to see these people over and over again and what's most exciting to me is I never know whether I can help them or they can help me.

Finally, Take Action! As my mentor and friend Sean Smith (link) told me: "just the fact that you are DOING is what 97% do not and will not. KUDOS! If you wait to get it just perfect, it will never get done." His words ring loud in my ears; YOU must take some action that moves YOU towards achieving your goals. If you are not moving towards them, then I'm afraid you are moving away from them. By action I mean do something; read an article, write an article, post an ad, take an online course in marketing, take a speaking class at your local community college. Call a business associate you haven't spoken to in awhile… just to say hi and see how they are doing.
