If you want a heavy-duty, high-capacity oil filter built specifically for Ford, Lincoln, and Mazda engines to handle synthetic blends and high mileage, choose Wix 51372; if you need a submersible, DOT-certified LED license plate light with a universal steel bracket that survives rain and marine environments, choose ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray. These two items solve completely different mechanical problems, yet both represent the kind of reliable hardware that keeps a vehicle road-ready without compromise.
As a new driver navigating the overwhelming world of automotive parts, the last thing you need is confusion between an engine maintenance essential and a lighting accessory. I am writing this comparison to cut through the noise and help you decide which specific part fits your immediate needs. While they share a category of "auto parts," their applications are worlds apart. One protects your engine's internal longevity against wear, while the other ensures you remain legal and visible on dark roads or waterways. There is no crossover here, but understanding the specific design strengths of each will prevent you from buying the wrong component for your vehicle's requirements.
• Wix 51372: Its biggest strength is the increased dirt-holding capacity and high particle retention designed for synthetic oils; its trade-off is it is strictly limited to specific Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Mazda engine families.
• ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray: Its biggest strength is the IPX7 waterproof certification and DOT FMVSS 108 compliance for universal mounting; its trade-off is it is a lighting accessory only, offering no engine protection whatsoever.
• Who is this for?: The Wix filter is for the owner maintaining a compatible domestic sedan or truck, while the LED light kit is for the trailer owner, boat enthusiast, or anyone needing a durable, weatherproof tag lamp.
The Wix 51372 is engineered as a spin-on lube filter, and its primary job is to keep your engine clean by trapping contaminants before they can cause damage. What stands out most about this unit is its increased dirt-holding capacity combined with high particle size retention. This isn't just about filtering out large debris; it is about catching microscopic particles that accumulate over time, especially when using synthetic oils where long-term engine health is critical.
This product is explicitly designed for owners of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles manufactured between 1991 and 2019, as well as specific Mazda models from 2000 to 2009. It also covers the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V models from 2006 to 2009. If you drive one of these vehicles and are performing routine maintenance, this filter offers a robust solution that integrates seamlessly with the manufacturer's specifications. The physical dimensions of 3.93 x 4 x 3.93 inches ensure a standard fit for the majority of applications in these lineups, making installation straightforward for anyone familiar with basic car care.

However, you should skip this product if your vehicle falls outside the listed compatibility list. A filter that does not match the thread size or diameter of your engine port will not seal correctly, leading to potential leaks or failure to filter oil entirely. Furthermore, if you are looking for a universal filter that fits any make or model, this specific part number is too specialized. It is a precision tool for specific engines, not a general-purpose item. If you own a non-compatible vehicle, buying this would be a waste of money and effort, regardless of how high-quality the filtration media might be.
The ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray is a license plate light kit designed for visibility and durability in harsh conditions. Unlike traditional incandescent bulbs that burn out frequently, this unit utilizes LED technology integrated into a sturdy gray housing. The standout feature here is the IPX7 waterproof certification, which means the unit is protected against immersion in water up to a certain depth and duration. This makes it ideal for boat trailers, off-road trucks, or any vehicle that regularly encounters puddles, rain, or even temporary submersion without fear of electrical failure.
Its versatility extends beyond just cars. Because it is rated for marine applications and features a universal design, it works on various trailers and vehicles where a license plate needs to be illuminated legally. The inclusion of a stainless steel bracket simplifies the mounting process significantly. The package comes with all necessary accessories, meaning you do not need to hunt for separate screws or adapters to get it installed. The build quality is described as impeccable, utilizing components designed to brave harsh climatic conditions, ensuring that the light stays functional whether you are driving in freezing snow or scorching summer heat.
Legal compliance is another major factor for this product. With DOT FMVSS 108 Certification and SAE L approval, this light meets federal safety standards for vehicle lighting. This is crucial for new drivers or anyone who wants to avoid fines during roadside inspections. If you live in an area with strict enforcement of trailer lighting laws, this kit provides peace of mind that your setup is up to code. However, it is strictly a lighting solution. It does not offer any power generation or storage capabilities on its own, relying on a standard 12V DC connection to function. If you need a self-contained power source, this is not the right choice.

For a new driver, the choice depends entirely on what you are trying to fix or maintain. If you are sitting in the garage wondering why your engine is making noise or due for an oil change, the Wix 51372 is the clear winner because engine health is the foundation of safe driving. Without proper filtration, even the best engine will fail prematurely. However, if your issue is that your license plate is dark at night or your trailer lights are failing after a rainstorm, the ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray is the only logical choice. In my opinion, I would prioritize the Wix filter first because an engine breakdown leaves you stranded in a dangerous way, whereas a lighting issue, while illegal and risky, is often less immediately catastrophic. That said, you cannot drive safely at night without the LED light, so both are vital depending on the situation.
Using it on an incompatible vehicle risks leaks or poor filtration.
Yes, the product description explicitly states it is suitable for marine applications due to its IPX7 waterproof certification and submersible design.
No, the kit includes a ready-to-mount stainless steel bracket and all necessary accessories, making the installation experience hassle-free without requiring specialized equipment.
The increased dirt-holding capacity allows the filter to trap more contaminants over a longer period, which is particularly beneficial when using synthetic oils or driving high-mileage vehicles.
