How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want a hard-shell AirPods Max case that puts your headphones to sleep the moment you zip it shut, choose WIWU Apple AirPods Max; if you need a lightweight travel case with a built-in handle and a padded mesh pouch for cables, choose TUNYINSH Case.
• WIWU Apple AirPods Max — biggest strength: a built-in magnet that automatically disconnects Bluetooth into Sleep Mode when you close the case and reconnects when you open it.
• WIWU Apple AirPods Max — biggest trade-off: it's the heavier, thicker option at roughly 0.5 lb and 1.96" thick, so it's a bag item rather than a pocket or clip-on item.
• TUNYINSH Case — biggest strength: a comfortable carry handle, double zippers and a full mesh strap that keeps cables and small accessories from tumbling around.
• TUNYINSH Case — biggest trade-off: no sleep-mode magnet and no dedicated cable groove, so it's pure physical protection rather than a smart accessory.
• Choose WIWU Apple AirPods Max if you want the case to do double duty as an auto-disconnect dock for your AirPods Max.
• Choose TUNYINSH Case if you want a light, grab-and-go travel box with a handle and mesh organization at a simpler feature set.
WIWU Apple AirPods Max is built around one idea that no ordinary case offers: the case itself manages your headphones' power state. A built-in magnet triggers the AirPods Max to drop their Bluetooth connection into Sleep Mode when you place them inside, and the connection comes back the instant you lift them out. That's a genuinely useful behavior for anyone who has ever left their AirPods Max sitting on a desk for a day and come back to a drained battery.
The physical build backs that up. The shell is EVA, the lining is soft velvet, and according to the spec sheet the light-colored lining is stain-resistant and safe for every AirPods Max colorway. There's a separate groove for the charging cable so the metal port doesn't get scratched by a loose connector, and the case is sized to hold the AirPods Max together with Apple's original Smart Case — or to hold the headphones alone. A YKK zipper handles opening and closing.
TUNYINSH Case: Who It's For
TUNYINSH Case takes a more conventional approach and executes the basics well. It's a hard EVA exterior with a soft velvet lining, plus shock-proof bubble padding — so you get two layers of cushioning against drops, spills and scratches rather than one. For a headphone this expensive, that extra padding layer is the real selling point.
The organization is where TUNYINSH differentiates. A full mesh strap runs across the inside so charging cables and small accessories stay put instead of sliding around and scuffing the ear cups. Two smooth double zippers close the box, and a comfortable handle makes it easy to carry on its own rather than burying it in a bag. It's designed specifically for the AirPods Max 2 and AirPods Max wireless over-ear headphones, with a stated maximum compatible device size of 21 cm, and it comes in black.
This is the case I'd point a traveler, gym-goer or commuter toward. If your routine involves pulling the case out of a backpack by a handle, tossing it on a seat, and grabbing it again, the handle and mesh pouch matter more day to day than a magnet does. It's also the more natural gift — the spec sheet explicitly frames it that way. Who should skip it? Anyone who wants the case to interact with their headphones electronically. There's no sleep-mode magnet here, and no dedicated charging-cable groove — just a mesh pocket. If auto-disconnect is the feature you're shopping for, TUNYINSH won't give it to you.
Side-by-Side: Which Should You Choose?
• Best for battery preservation → WIWU Apple AirPods Max. The auto sleep-mode magnet disconnects Bluetooth when the case closes, which is the whole point of the design.
• Best for carrying by hand → TUNYINSH Case. The built-in comfortable handle makes it a standalone carry item, not just a bag insert.
• Best for keeping the charging port unscratched → WIWU Apple AirPods Max. It has a dedicated charging cable groove rather than a general pocket.
• Best for extra drop protection → TUNYINSH Case. EVA shell, velvet lining plus shock-proof bubble padding is a three-part cushioning stack.
• Best for a lighter, more compact footprint → TUNYINSH Case. It's listed at 0.3 kg versus WIWU's 0.5 lb, so it's the lighter of the two.
• Best if you use ear cup covers or keep the original Smart Case → WIWU Apple AirPods Max. WIWU states the interior fits the AirPods Max with two protective covers fitted, and it holds the original Smart Case too.
• Best for gifting → TUNYINSH Case. It's presented as a gift-friendly pick for family, a partner or a friend.
I'd buy the WIWU Apple AirPods Max. In my opinion, the sleep-mode magnet is the deciding feature — it turns the case into something that actively protects your headphones' battery rather than just their shell, and the charging-cable groove and Smart Case compatibility make it the more thoughtful design for an everyday AirPods Max owner. If you specifically want a handle, lighter weight and a mesh pouch for accessories, the TUNYINSH Case is the better fit for you, and the added bubble padding is a legitimate advantage. But if you can only pick one and you care about the case doing something your headphones can't do for themselves, I recommend WIWU.
Neither case connects your headphones to anything — they're storage. What the WIWU Apple AirPods Max does do is automatically drop the Bluetooth connection into Sleep Mode when the headphones go in, then reconnect when you take them out. The TUNYINSH Case has no such feature; you manage the connection yourself.
Both cases are for carrying, not charging — you'd charge before or after storage. WIWU's case has a dedicated charging cable groove so a stored cable won't scratch the AirPods Max's metal port, while the TUNYINSH Case uses a mesh strap to keep cables and accessories from shifting around.
Put the AirPods Max in the case, then put the case in your bag. WIWU's option is about 0.5 lb and 1.96" thick and can hold the headphones plus Apple's original Smart Case. TUNYINSH's option is lighter at 0.3 kg, has a carry handle, and is designed to slip into a bag, backpack or suitcase.
If they were stored in the WIWU Apple AirPods Max case, the Bluetooth reconnects as soon as you take them out, so pairing to your Mac should be immediate on wake. With the TUNYINSH Case there's no auto-reconnect, so you may need to reselect the headphones from your Mac's Bluetooth menu. Either way, check the current price on Amazon before you decide.
