OVERVIEW
Wish Shelf: Gift Wishlists (shown in the app as "Wish Shelf") does not require an account, and we do not sell personal information. You use it to keep wishlists of gift items with links, stores, prices, optional photos, and reservation names, to record gifts you received in a thank-you list, and to share a list as a page file or text. These records are kept in the app's storage on your device. The app also uses Google services for analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and advertising.
SHARED LINKS, PHOTOS, SHARE PAGES, AND BACKUPS
Links shared from other apps: when you share text to Wish Shelf from another app (for example, a product link from a browser), Android passes the shared text and its subject to the app. The app saves that text in its private app storage until you save it as a wish or cancel it, and then removes it. It takes the first http or https link from the text and uses the rest as an editable title. The app does not open the link, look up the product, or download anything from it.
Photos: in the wish editor, "Choose photo" opens the system photo picker, which needs no photo or storage permission, and only the photo you choose is read. "Take photo" asks for camera permission when you tap it and then opens the camera. The app saves a resized JPEG copy (at most 1600 pixels on the longest side) in its documents storage. The photo picker and the camera may leave a temporary copy of the picture in the app's cache. If you decline camera permission, no photo is added; you can still choose a photo or save the wish without one. A photo you add but do not save is normally deleted when you close the editor.
Share pages: "Share list" then "Create page" writes an HTML page file for the selected list to an exports folder in the app's cache, and "Share page file" passes it to the Android share sheet. The page contains the list name, a short note that it is a snapshot, and for each wish not yet received: its title, store, price, link, a small copy of its photo, and, if you turn on "Include reserved status", a "Reserved" label. Photos are left out when the page would be too large. Giver names, reservation names, received-gift details, and notes are not included. "Share text" sends the same list information as plain text, without photos, through the share sheet. The app or person you choose receives the page or text, and anyone with the page file can read it; links in it open only when the reader taps them.
Backups: "Create backup" writes a backup (a manifest and data parts) to the exports folder, and "Share backup ZIP" packs it into a .zip archive and opens the share sheet. A backup contains your current lists (including archived ones), wishes and received gifts with all their fields (including reservation names, givers, dates, notes, and thank-you status), their photos, the IDs of deleted records, and your settings. Records the app cannot read are not included and are listed as missing.
Restoring: "Import backup" opens the system file picker (no permission is needed). The app copies the files you pick into a temporary folder in its documents storage, deletes that folder afterwards, and keeps a copy of the backup's manifest and parts in its documents storage so that missing photo parts can be added by importing again. The copies the picker placed in the app's cache can remain. Restoring merges the backup with your records: the newer version of each record is kept, and records deleted in either place stay deleted. If the app's saved data cannot be read at all when you import a backup, the app first keeps an archive copy of its existing data files in its storage.
The app does not use location, contacts, the microphone, or notifications.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The app saves each list and wish as a file in its documents storage, with an index that lists them. Lists contain a name, occasion, and whether the list is archived. Wishes contain a title, link, store, priority, price and target price with currency, an optional photo, a reservation name, and, for received gifts, the giver, date, note, and whether you thanked them. Photos are stored as separate files. Settings contain your default currency (initially taken from your device's region settings) and the last list you opened. The app sets no limit on the number of lists or wishes, and restoring a backup does not apply a count limit either.
To keep deletions in effect after a restore, the app keeps the IDs of deleted records. The app may also store basic operating information such as an app-use count, whether the review prompt was requested, and cached advertising settings.
The developer does not run a server that receives your records. The app reads developer-controlled advertising settings from Google Cloud Firestore, but it does not write to Firestore or upload your lists, wishes, photos, share pages, or backups.
ANALYTICS, CRASH REPORTING, AND ADS
Google Firebase Analytics may process limited app-usage and technical information, such as app opens and sessions, a screen view of the start screen, an app-use count, review prompt events, menu events (review, privacy policy), whether a launch ad was shown, ad revenue events (ad format, value, currency, and precision), app version, device type, and app-instance identifiers. No event parameter carries values you enter; events do not include list names, wishes, links, prices, names, or photos.
Google Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports and related technical information needed to diagnose app problems.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob: an app-open ad at launch or when you return to the app, an interstitial ad that may appear after you finish a share page, a banner ad on the Lists tab, and a native ad in the exit dialog. Google may process advertising identifiers and device, app, consent, network, and ad-performance information to provide and measure ads, and may use an IP address to estimate an approximate location. Ads are played muted. The app does not send your lists, wishes, or photos to the ad service.
PERMISSIONS AND ADVERTISING CHOICES
Feature permissions: camera, only when you tap "Take photo". The app also uses vibration, a permission Android grants without asking, for short haptic feedback when you tap a button or a save completes. The app does not request microphone, location, contacts, notifications, photos and media, or storage access. You can change camera permission in Android Settings at any time.
At launch, before ads are requested, Google's consent message (UMP) is checked and shown where required (for example in the EEA and UK). If that step completes and Google reports that ads cannot be requested, the app does not request ads. Personalized ads are requested only when consent is not required or your choice allows personalized advertising; otherwise ads are non-personalized. If the consent step fails (the consent information cannot be updated or the consent message cannot be loaded or read), the app requests non-personalized ads only.
The Settings tab has a "Privacy choices" button that opens the app menu. Where Google requires it, that menu shows "Privacy choices", which reopens the consent message so you can change your advertising choice. If that message cannot be opened or your new choice cannot be read, the app stops requesting ads until it is closed and started again.
STORAGE AND YOUR CONTROL
On the Lists tab, Delete on a wish removes that wish and its photo from the app's records, and you can undo it until your next action; for undo, a copy of the photo is kept in the app's cache until your next save or file action, or until the app starts again. Deleting a list removes the list and its wishes not yet received; if the list has received gifts, the list is archived and those gifts stay in the thank-you list. On the Received tab, Delete on a gift removes it the same way (after a confirmation, with undo until your next action). "Remove photo" in the editor removes a wish's photo. Photos that no wish uses any more are normally deleted from app storage after the change is saved, and the record files of deleted wishes and lists after a later save; they can remain while some saved records cannot be read or a save could not be confirmed, and a photo is kept while a restored backup is waiting for its replacement.
Share pages and backups in the exports folder are normally deleted when the app starts again, and the ones that contain a record you delete are normally deleted when you delete it. A kept copy of an imported backup is deleted once none of its lists or wishes remain in the app. The app has no button to delete these files, the archive copies made when restoring over unreadable data, or the copies left by the file picker. Clearing the app's storage in Android Settings or uninstalling the app removes them along with the rest of the app's storage. Files and text you shared or saved elsewhere are controlled by the app or person that received them, or by the place where you saved them.
Local data, including photos and imported backup copies, may be included in a Google or device backup depending on your backup settings (the app allows Android system backup). Uninstalling normally removes the active copy but may not remove an older backup.
Because we do not receive your records, we cannot delete them for you; the controls above remove them from the app. For questions about data processed by Google, or to ask us for help with a privacy request, contact us at the address below.
We use these services under their applicable terms, and we ensure that third-party service providers with whom we share user data provide the same or equal protection of that data as stated in this policy. Data processed by Google is retained according to its service settings and policies:
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Firebase privacy information: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google advertising technologies: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
SECURITY
Your records and photos are kept in the app's private storage, which the operating system protects from other apps; they are not separately encrypted by the app, so protect your device with a screen lock. Share pages and backup archives are not encrypted, so anyone who receives one can read its contents; a backup also contains reservation names, givers, and notes. Review a page or backup before you share it. Apart from the limited analytics events described above, the app does not upload your saved data. Communication between the app and Google services uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what the app handles to what is described in this policy.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Wish Shelf stores the prices, links, and store names you enter or share; it does not check them, follow price changes, or confirm that a product is available. A share page is a snapshot and is not updated when you change the list. Links in a share page lead to third-party websites that have their own privacy practices. Names you enter for givers and reservations are information about other people; enter and share them with care.
CHILDREN
The app is intended for adults and is not directed to children; we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
CHANGES
We may update this policy if the app or its services change. The date above shows the latest revision.
