Startup items are not managed in MS config in Win 11, in fact it tells you to go to Task Manager in msconfig. There is no Defender startup task in my startup items. Microsoft are hiding it and making it very hard to disable compared to windows 10, however for some reason with Kaspersky it would re enable, which as said didn't happen to me with other AV.

I found the official Microsoft article within the link below which explains that if you install a third party antivirus, Windows Defender automatically gets disabled or goes in passive mode. -us/windows/security/threat-protection/windows-defender-antivirus/windows-defender-antivirus-compatibilityHowever, Malwarebytes Premium is a complete antivirus alternative. So I have the latest build do I untick the box to always register with windows security center? Also what do I do after that about Windows defender as of now where i have the latest build of it and win 10 OS up to date?

I've noticed for a while that my laptop doesn't really run well. So I tested one with a file that Windows Defender detects and then deletes, but Eset leaves it alone. If Eset is installed, the files will be deleted by Microsoft Defender antivirus service. If I then uninstall Eset, they are indeed under threats in windows defender. So if I exclude the folder where the file is located from scanning in Windows Defender, then defender will leave it alone when I have installed Eset.

But i'm a little mad ad myself. ? It happens to me more, that i found the problem after i post about it. The problem was AdGuard for Windows. For some reason it triggers windows defender. I think it has to do whit the redirect driver you must use if you use 3rd party antivirus or the WFP driver, I don't know. But I'm a little shocked that this could happen. Never new this. It was a great peace of software for years, but i think it is way to aggressive. I switch to ublock, because i have every time some other issues.

However, I can see how this issue is related to MD running concurrently with Eset. As far as Win 11 22H2 goes, it appears the new SmartApp feature is the cause of this. See this prior forum posting: -windows-defender-still-running-after-install-of-eset-internet-security/?do=findComment&comment=159509

Both yesterday and today the same apparent scam has accrued. I was online using Microsoft edge when a message appeared saying Windows defender had detected a virus and my computer was disabled. It gave a number to call Microsoft support who could help me. I tried closing Edge, opening Norton 360. Nothing worked the message just kept pulsing. By holding down the power button the computer did shut down. When I restarted everything seemed fine. I ran Norton power eraser which did a scan and showed no threats found. I then ran a full scan with the same results. The same thing happened today with the same results.

I have found plenty of advice about how to do this (by allowing controlled folder access) but in the latest windows 10 the on screen options have changed and I cannot find a way of preventing Windows Defender from blocking my attempts to edit libre office files. Surely I am not facing this problem alone?

Microsoft Defender has often been subjected to criticisms related to privacy concerns, performance issues, and intrusive behavior in recent versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Microsoft Defender features cloud file analysis and file submission under Microsoft Spynet Membership which eventually became Microsoft Advanced Protection Service (MAPS) when opted in with basic or advanced membership collects user data and sends to Microsoft which arises privacy concerns among users.[77][78] The cloud integration of Microsoft Defender also rose concerns among privacy advocates. The MsmpEngine of Microsoft Defender in recent versions of Windows was found to be using high amounts of system resources, especially CPU Resources when Real-time protection and scheduled scan is configured to be turned on.[79] This issue is more apparent in PCs with Intel CPUs.[80] Microsoft defender is configured by default to take up 50% of the system's CPU resources available by default, although this can be configured using Group Policy Editor along with limiting the process of MsmpEngine to use a Low Priority Process during a Realtime Scan and customizing scheduled scans.[81][82] Recent Windows Versions also deeply integrated Microsoft Defender with the operating system using mechanisms like Early Boot Anti-Malware, Tamper Protection, etc., making it almost impossible to remove or uninstall. Although these are useful to prevent malware from disabling or removing the antivirus itself, they also lead to frustration among users who utilize and seek 3rd party alternatives.[83][84][85][86] Microsoft Defender has also been found to annoy users with intrusive behavior; multiple users have reported a prompt to set up a Microsoft account with Windows while others have claimed to be nagged by a similar prompt to set up or sign into a Microsoft account for Onedrive.[87][88][89] In late-July 2020, Microsoft Defender began to classify modifications of the hosts file that blocks Microsoft telemetry and data collection servers as being a severe security risk.[90][91]

We're still rolling it out, so we've never used Defender to remediate anything significant. I'm not sure what the limits of its capability are for remediation. The #microsoft-defender channel on the MacAdmins Slack is the best resource I've found for questions about MDATP. The lead engineer for MDATP checks in there regularly and responds to questions.

Hello All,

I have configured the policy for MDATP and the configuration profiles (steps here: -us/windows/security/threat-protection/microsoft-defender-atp/mac-jamfpro-policies ) and scooped it to all our Lab's, however the configuration profiles like (DEFENDER - NETWORK FILTER, MDATP,MDATP MDAV - GRANT FULL DISK ACCESS TO EDR AND AV & other 5 config profiles) are in "pending state" in few of the labs for days now, computers are regularly checking-in, but the STATUS shows pending) and does not even giving any error log's to flush & re-run) all the machines are running Mohave OS. any help is appreciated.

"I too had this problem whilst telling me it was still scanning as though another AV was installed, for me the fix was simple in the end. go to settings then updates & security then windows defender and switch off the occasional scan. Then open defender and click turn on."

Detects the usage of "reg.exe" to add Defender folder exclusions. Qbot has been seen using this technique to add exlcusions for folders within AppData and ProgramData. This rule is adapted from _creation/proc_creation_win_reg_defender_exclusion.yml 2351a5e196
