Windows 8 build 7989 is a Milestone 3 build of Windows 8, which was originally released on 18 June 2011 in the x64 architecture, then on 8 February 2020, an x86 checked/debug version of it was uploaded to BetaArchive. The unmodified version of the AMD64 architecture's ISO image was later found on 18 June 2022.

Build 7989.winmain.110421-1825 which is newer than the previously leaked builds 7955 and 7959 but is still part of the Milestone 3 phase of development and is therefore is very similar to the previous two in terms of functionality and performance.

In the previous builds a new visual style known as Aero Lite was present. Although the visual style supported desktop composition based animations it lacked support for the transparency effects which we have grown to love since the early days of Windows Vista. In build 7989 the Aero Lite visual style now fully supports glass and has also been tweaked slightly.

Its also worth mentioning that the Basic theme now has the option to add transparency to both the taskbar and windows, however certain elements such as the start menu still retain the basic grey style, similar to what would normally be seen in the Windows Classic visual style.

There has been another Windows 8 leak by an anonymous person, this time we get our hands on 7989.winmain.110421-1825 which is an M3 build. you can find it on various torrent sites, this is another x64 build which features a new boot screen with the Betta Fish from older Win7 builds and some additional GUI enhancements, the Aero Lite theme has been modified as well as the Explorer Ribbon.

Update: It's been confirmed that Build 7989 has been leaked on torrent sites. If you are wondering if the new touch UI is part of the leak, it's not, so no need to even bother with this one.

Screenshots of Windows 8 build 7989 have surfaced on the BetaArchive forums (via Neowin). The full build string is "7989.winmain.110421-1825.615974c7346f7374" meaning that this build was compiled at 6:25PM on April 21, 2011.

Thanks but I had looked at that. That option is already unchecked, so I assume it must be the default. Also, when I read that option I assumed it applied to the window's decoration itself, and not the problem area: the rectangular buttons in the panel that one clicks on to raise and lower windows.

What version of Xfce are you using?

I believe it was (partially?) removed for 4.10.

If you are on 4.10 try disabling the 'Show windows from all workspaces or viewports' in panel - Items - WIndows buttons.

The first time, I tried, I remember, that there has been some trouble with automatic assigning a drive letter to this mobile disk. I had to take away the drive letter by Windows storage manager. On my notebook, the mobile hdd has drive letter "K" within Veracrypt (as you can see in the screenshot, which I have taken fom desktop computer) On my notebook, I never have seen a drive letter on windows. It only shows up in Veracrypt.

On my desktop computer, there is also now no drive letter assigned.

You can see the screenshots from storage manager on my desktop computer attached:

The link to my screenshots disappeared, when I published myTopic. So I try to put it in here without leading http://

I assumed, that there is something wrong with the kind, windows has registrated the storage device. Therfore I have used the small tool "USBdeview" to find the registration of my mobile hdd. I deleted the entry of this hdd.

Then I connected the mobile hdd again and tried to acces it via Veracrypt. Now I got the message, that the hdd would be in a ready state. Error No: 7989

When I closed this message, another message of Veracrypt showed up and advised me, to let Windows registrate the hdd again, using the command "mountvol.exe /E" and then restart the computer.

I followed this advise and after rebooting, I could mount the mobile hdd with Veracrypt successfully. be457b7860
