I am a system administrator for the company I work for. My boss wanted me to add a specific wallpaper for all the computers in our domain. So I activated and changed all the wallpapers with GPO. At the start, everything seems to work fine. After a day or two, some users complained to me that their desktop turned black.

Also you can deploy wallpapers through the steps in the following similar thread.

I have done it like the link you sent me. I am copying the wallpaper locally to the domain's pc and then in Wallpaper Desktop i am using the local path. I just tried the solution with creating this registry setting but it didnt work.

Still struggling to resolve the problem and wondering, "why is my background black?" or "why does my background go black?" This display issue might be caused by incompatible or corrupted display drivers.

I've setup client desktop background via GPO Administrative Template, in user configuration. It works fine but sometimes users randomly reports they get a black wallpaper instead of the designated one. I checked the Event Viewer but couldn't find any error about that policy.

99% of the users have laptops and travel, so they not always have the domain server available for fetching the image. So I thought I'd change the policy to copy the background locally on the computer and set it from the C: drive, but the black wallpaper was happening anyway! This is still a non-issue as it happen even when users are in LAN. And I occasionally checked, the domain was correctly reachable via its DNS name.

As above, you could use local path instead of UNC path to specify wallpaper file path in the GPO. Place the file on the users computer and use that path in the wallpaper GPO. See: -copy-files/ Opens a new window

Under System/Desktop Icons you'll find a toggle to enable icons on the desktop. Switch this on, and suddenly -- wallpaper! This stays there if you turn off desktop icons but disappears again on login.

Right click the desktop and untick "show desktop icons" or "show icons" does that fix the wallpaper display issue? If so, go through Gconf editor to the gnome desktop settings, set draw desktop to off, reboot, set it to on, reboot, and it should work. I had the same issue

I'm using Remmina for connecting to a Windows 7 machine over RDP. One problem is that instead of the wallpaper of remote desktop it displays a black backround. In the RDP preferences the "Wallpaper" flag is set for all quality types of connections (from 'poor' to 'best' ) and wallpaper is not displayed with any connection type. ( Also I tried to set various color types - high color, true color, etc.) What can cause the problem? On Debian it worked OK.

EDIT: Alright I re-installed xfdesktop then got it working by setting some background wallpaper from Xfce Menu > Settings > Desktop (since I did not use any before just black color) then rebooting. Got everything back to normal again.

I experience the same problem after upgrading to xfdesktop 4.10.1: the desktop was gone (only black background) and using the settings manager did not change anything. Restarting seemed to solve the problem, but after changing to an image background the settings manager stopped working again (or it works, but the changes are not taken over). Restarting again (several times) did not help.

I left my debian jessie system running at work, where I have dual displays and use xfce. Last night I connected in with vnc from a mac laptop at home. When I got to work this morning and unlocked the desktop, I noticed:

- black background where it should have been a shade of green that I chose. (I do not use an image)

- icons shown but icon text label is not shown. Click on an image and I see white text on blue. So, apparently icon test is black on black if not selected.

- I could not close an app (rdesktop) that I had launched through the menus. Clicking in rdesktop window showed nothing (all black).

- Right click on panel icon and select Close ... does nothing, does not exit rdesktop.

- Login to Windows system from a different computer, and it did not close rdesktop on xfce desktop. Normally rdesktop closes if I login to the windows system from another computer.

I've owned my HP Stream 13 for more than a year now, but since I've opened it from the box and and attempted to change my desktop wallpaper from the defaults, it has only been just plain, solid black. All I want to do is put a wallpaper on that I might enjoy that isn't just this dull plain background or one of the ones that came prepackaged with the netbook.

Is there a way I can use Java (or Groovy) to change my desktop wallpaper in Windows XP? I have a program that creates a new image every day (or whenever) and I would like a way to automatically update my desktop.

Friend, originally known as Black Labrador Otis, is a wallpaper included in Windows XP, licensed from Corbis. It was taken by Chris Carroll. It depicts a black labrador dog sitting on a wooden floor. There is also a vertical shot of the same dog standing on what appears to be a carpet.

I had a forced black "Wallpaper" once I tried updating it via Terminal. I ran a scrpit that utilized respective sqlite db and tried to update it with some path to desired wallpaper. Once Dock got killed, it was completely gone and background was forced black.

According to users, Windows 11 displays a black wallpaper randomly after an upgrade. This is an annoying issue that may be making you frustrated. What should you do to remove Windows 11 black desktop background? Solutions can be found in this post on the MiniTool website.

This annoying problem not only happens on a Windows 10 PC. According to users, it can also appear on Windows 11. To be specific, when trying to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11, the new system randomly displays a black wallpaper. For instance, Windows 11 shows the black desktop wallpaper/background when applying a new theme or wallpaper or sometimes the wallpaper goes black when opening the Start menu.

If there are some glitches, perhaps Windows 11 displays a black wallpaper. To fix it, you can try to restart your computer, which can sometimes fix minor issues including the black wallpaper bug. Go to click the Power button and choose Restart.

Hello, I recently downloaded the new MacOS Sonoma and I noticed the new feature that allows you to move all windows out of the way to access desktop items and widgets. I must admit, I love this new feature, but I'm not a fan of the black border it creates around the screen. I'm wondering if there's a way to remove this border while keeping the feature active. If it's not currently possible, I would like to suggest adding it as a customizable option in future updates.

You cannot remove the black border around the screen when you are using "main screen", but you could enable stage manager and make the "stage manager screen" as same as "main screen", which could "remove" the black border as well.

After you done all of these, you should see same screen both on "Stage Manager" and "Home Screen". They are not the same one, but they look like the same. Plus, you won't see the black border after click the wallpaper.

This being said, I think the border is a reminder from Apple to notify you that you are in "widget viewing mode". For instance, if the screen had no windows open, you could not tell the difference between "normal mode" and"widget viewing mode". That's just a thought.

Same thing happens when you "Show Desktop" in Mission Control. Clicking on the Desktop activates "Show Desktop" unless you change those settings. The borders allow you to click on them to restore the windows that were moved to show the desktop.

Before we get into the more complex solutions below, try to simply change your background image and see if this resolves the problem. If you are still looking at a black screen in your Windows 10 computer, try the fixes below.

If the black desktop background appeared after a Windows update, you would have to revert your system to the settings before the error showed up. Note that in order to use this fix, you need to have created a system restore point on your PC prior to this event.

Remember to restart your computer after performing each step to see if the black computer background issue has been resolved. If none of these methods work, it might be a good idea to seek further technical assistance.

You switched on your Windows 7 computer or restarted the device after installing important updates. When Windows 7 signed you in and displayed the Desktop, you were surprised to see a blank or empty solid Black color screen instead of your custom Desktop wallpaper or background.

4. Now select any desired wallpaper and make sure to change Picture Position option using the drop-down box. Select it as Fill or other options such as Fit, Tile or Center. DO NOT select it as Stretch which is causing this problem. 17dc91bb1f
