Step 2: Choose one of the ways to split-screen your window. There will be a total of six you can choose from. Windows will open the task switcher and suggest another one of your open windows to pick. Once you choose an open window, it will snap in place.
The Windows 10 shortcut to split windows is really useful: just press and hold the Windows key and then press either the Left or Right arrow key. This should automatically snap the active window to the left or right. Then you just select another window to fill the second empty space. Simple.
Perhaps unknow to many, you can split your Windows 10 screen up to 4 ways. If you have a large or high-resolution display, you can take advantage of all of that extra screen real estate by snapping up to four windows on a single screen using Corner Snap. This essentially opens up a way to quadruple your productivity. The process is similar to the two-way split screen but ever so slightly different.
Snap layouts are a new Windows 11 feature to help introduce users to the power of window snapping. Snap layouts are easily accessible by hovering the mouse over a window's maximize button or pressing Win + Z. After invoking the menu that shows the available layouts, users can click on a zone in a layout to snap a window to that particular zone and then use Snap Assist to finish building an entire layout of windows. Snap layouts are tailored to the current screen size and orientation, including support for three side-by-side windows on large landscape screens and top/bottom stacked windows on portrait screens.
In Windows 7, Microsoft added Aero Snap which made rearranging windows easier even though the underlying abilities were present in Windows since Windows 95. In Windows 10, Microsoft introduced more features for snapping windows. But Windows 10 as we know from experience has far too many issues and is nowhere near the quality of Windows 7. So for those who wish to continue using Windows 7, here's a good news. With a free app, you can get some Windows 10 Snap features on Windows 7.
In Windows 7, Microsoft made it easier to tile (snap) windows side-by-side by automatically arranging them when you drag them with the mouse pointer to the top, left or right edges of the screen. Microsoft calls this Aero Snap. In Windows 10, snapping features have been expanded. Windows 10 has Snap Assist, Corner Snap and Snap Fill. Snap Assist prompts you to choose another window to snap immediately after you snap any one of them. Corner Snap is the ability to drag windows to the screen's corners to resize and snap them to the 4 screen quadrants. Snap Fill is the feature where resizing one window also resizes the other window snapped to it to automatically remove any blank space.
AquaSnap is a free app for personal use. The free version gives you enhanced window snapping, stretching, shaking, docking and customizable keyboard shortcuts. Its professional edition which is for $9 gets you some extra features like moving windows together, tiling and multi-monitor support. AquaSnap not only greatly enhances the Windows Snap feature but makes it highly configurable. You can selectively disable snapping to whatever screen edges or corners you want. It also includes smarter ways to resize app windows.
Moving to the AquaSnap tab, you will see that it lets you snap individual windows as well as child windows in a multi-window (Multiple Document Interface) app. We won't go into the MDI features because such apps are less common. So in the 'Window type' dropdown, select 'Independent window' to control the snapping of single windows.
The AquaMagnet feature is just a fancy name for snapping windows to each other or to the screen edges while resizing them. You can specify with pixel perfect accuracy how much farther apart or closer a window will snap while you resize it by dragging its border.
AquaGlue lets you resize or move snapped windows as a group! It is Windows 10's Snap Fill feature for resizing plus the ability to move windows together as a group. AquaGlue however is available without restrictions only in the paid version.
You can see how powerful and flexible AquaSnap is. All of its features are available on Windows 2000 and upwards. It is amazing that most of its features are given away for free. Many Linux distros and desktop environments like KDE have had corner snapping for many years. The window manager of the Windows operating system also has supported these capabilities but they were never exposed to the end user. If you're doing some serious multitasking, you can even snap windows to each corner of your display. Start by dragging any window into one of the four corners of your screen, then let go of your mouse button to snap it into a window that's a quarter of the size.
From here, you've got some choices. First, if you snap another window into a corner on the same side of your display, you will be prompted by Snap Assist to choose a third window that will occupy the other half of your screen. But if you'd rather have four equally-sized windows snapped to each corner of your display, you can then drag this window into a corner of its own, and you'll be prompted to select the fourth window.
On the other hand, Snap Assist can come in handy. You can quickly snap a window to the left or right halves of the screen. Press the Windows key + the left arrow key to snap to the left; press the Windows key + the right arrow key to snap to the right. Doing so resizes the window so that it consumes the respective half of the screen. At that point, you can press the Windows key + the up or down arrow to reduce the window to a quarter of its size. In this way, you can quickly arrange four open windows.
How Snap feature works In Windows 10 you can snap your application windows to left or right side of your screen, or any of four corners of your screen. This makes easy to work on multiple applications side-by-side. You just need to drag your application window to your desired position (side of screen, or corner of screen), and Windows 10 will take care of automatically arranging and resizing your application windows which you have snapped.
You can also resize any of the snapped windows. This especially comes handy in scenarios like when If you want your web browser in larger, and music player or chat application in smaller area of screen.
Snap feature also works effectively if you work with muliple monitors, tablets or 2-in-1s in touch screen mode. How to Snap application window to side of sceen To snap your application window to either side of screen, just drag your application window to desired side of screen. Windows will automatically snap your dragged window to 50% screen size.
Windows 10 Snap assist feature will also show you suggestions for other application windows that you can snap to remaining empty screen space. You can click on any of suggested windows, and it will be snapped to remaining empty screen space. This helps avoid time consuming task of manually searching for other application window to snap in empty screen area.
You can also use Windows + Arrow (left or right) Keys to snap your application window to left or right side of screen respectively.

How to Snap application window to corner of screen You can also snap four application windows simultaneously to four corners of your screen. To snap application window to corner of screen, simply drag window to desired corner of screen.
You can also use keyboard shortcuts to snap window to corner of screen. Simply hold down Windows key, hit left key, and then hit Up key to snap window to top left quadrant of your screen. Customizing Snap settings You can also customize Windows 10 default snap settings, by going to "System -> Multitasking" settings in Windows 10 Settings App. Use below settings to customize default settings: You can disable Snap feature by setting "Arrange windows automatically by dragging them to the sides or corners of the screen" setting to OFF value. If you don't want Windows to automatically resize your window size when you snap, set "When I snap more than one Window, automatically adjust the size of the windows" to OFF value. If you don't want Windows to automatically suggest new windows for snapping, set "When I snap a Window, show what I can snap next to it" to OFF value. Speaking of the existing Windows, you can snap windows side by side or on corners of your desktop window. For example, you can do so by holding the title bar of an app window and ramming it into the right or left edge of your screen, splitting the screen into two halves.
