Ticking genes only affect white caused by white spotting genes listed on the White Spotting page. It "cancels out" the white in various ways, allowing the creature's original colors to show. If there are no white spotting genes present to affect, Ticking Series genes won't be visible, but can be carried and passed on to offspring.
These genes are all part of the same series, so a creature can only have two at most. Ticking genes are codominant, meaning having more than one will show the effects of both.
