• Creates a large blotch of black color haphazardly across the body, as if the creature has been brushed with soot.

• May also "paint over" other markings, darkening them or making them totally black.

• May be dappled.

• Usually NOT affected by dilution genes.

• Skin is not affected. Eyes are not affected.

• In hooved creatures, mane and tail may be black where the marking touches, and the gene may only manifest on one of these instead of the base coat.
