Retreats and Practice Intensives

Shōgatsu Practice Intensive

Thursday, December 19- Wednesday, January 1

The end of one year and the transition to the new year is a useful time to deepen or start a meditation practice. Focusing on your practice during this time can provide the foundation for strong habits as you enter into the new year.

The New Years Intensive Practice period begins just before the winter solstice and ends on New Years Day. The temple will be open every morning and some evenings during the period for both ritual and meditation services.

The practice period begins with an opening ceremony on Thursday, December 19. During this time, people should set a an intent and focus for their practice period and determine how many of the meditation sessions they plan to attend. The practice period will conclude with a closing ceremony on Wednesday, January 1.

If you would like to participate in the intensive but are unable to attend the opening ceremony, you can arrange for a meeting with Shingaku or Ryushin on a different day or time to begin to formally enter this practice period.

See the calendar for specific days and times the temple will be open during the practice period.
