Transforming Racism Practice Group

“Racism is a heart disease. Many of us can live for a while with a heart disease without knowing it, and others of us know we have a heart disease but are afraid or even in denial about it. But racism is a heart disease, and it’s curable!”

--Ruth King, Mindful of Race: Transforming Racism from the Inside Out

This group started as a book group, coming together to discuss Ruth King's book Mindful of Race: Transforming Racism from the Inside Out. As a result of those conversations, the group has transformed into a racial affinity group for white people to have open dialogue exploring our shared racial history, our role in upholding structural racism, and to examine ways to disrupt racial inequities. We meet twice per month for an hour long conversation followed by a short meditation period.

This is an established group, although we will occasionally accept new members. See the date below when new members are welcome.

Mindful of Race: Transforming Racism from the Inside Out can be purchased from several online booksellers and directly from King's website.)

Upcoming dates open new members:

  • Thursday, November 7
  • Thursday, January 16
