Fall 2018 Information

Travel soccer is for players attending 3rd through 10th grade (previously know as U9-U16.)

Teams compete in the BAYS (Bay Area Youth Soccer) soccer league.

All of the players who register for Travel soccer before the registration deadline will be placed on a team. Those players who register late will be placed on teams as space allows. Teams must be submitted to BAYS many weeks before the start of the travel season, and our registration deadlines are scheduled so that we can make those deadlines. Teams submitted late to BAYS are not guaranteed a placement within the league.

Travel teams typically meet for training sessions twice per week on weekdays, with games on Saturdays during the season. The games run between 60 and 90 minutes, varying by age group. The field play also varies by age group, between 6v6 and 11v11. The teams train as a unit and are coached by volunteer coaches. Professional coaches, acting as Coach Mentors, are available for coaches upon request.

Teams are created based on level of play. Players can be challenged and developed more easily when playing with others who are at a similar level. Placements (tryouts where every player is placed on a team) are held annually, usually in June for the following soccer year. Players must be registered before attending placements. Player movement may occur during or between seasons without the help of placements when and if there are players who are clearly misplaced.

Teams are placed in BAYS divisions and sections based on the team's level of play. Teams that lose all games or win all games in their assigned division/section will be moved at the earliest opportunity so that the players are encouraged as well as challenged.

To run the Travel program, the Winchester Soccer Club has a Girls' Commissioner, an Assistant Girls' Commissioner, a Boys' Commissioner, and an Assistant Boys' Commissioner on our Board of Directors, as well as an Age Group Coordinator (AGC) for each age group. Please contact the appropriate Age Group Coordinator if you have any questions. Contact information for the commissioners can be found on our Board of Directors page.

What are placements?

Each Spring, all travel players must attend placements. Placements allow player evaluators to assess the skill level of each player, which helps in assuring each player is placed on an appropriate team. Placements take place in late May/early June each year. Players are automatically registered for placements when they register for the season.

The Town Travel program participates in the Boston Area Youth Soccer (BAYS) league and gives players the chance to play other town travel teams. Travel players practice twice a week, and play matches on Saturdays.

WSC cannot guarantee placement for players who register after the registration deadline.

Refund Dates: 100% through January 1 ~ 50% through March 1 ~ No refunds after March 1
