If you want a rugged, wired headset designed for specific assistive audio systems and clear hearing amplification, choose Williams AV Sound HED 027; if you need the ultimate sweat-resistant Bluetooth solution for high-intensity workouts with all-day battery life, choose Monster AC317.
These two devices occupy completely different worlds in terms of design philosophy and intended environment. The Williams AV Sound HED 027 is built as a heavy-duty, over-ear tool focused on durability and compatibility with hearing assistance technology, while the Monster AC317 is engineered as a modern, open-ear wireless companion optimized for movement and situational awareness.
• Williams AV Sound HED 027: Strengths include its metal and plastic build quality, folding design for portability, and 40mm dynamic drivers tuned for mild to low gain hearing loss. Trade-off: It is a wired device with no battery life to speak of beyond your source, making it less ideal for active use without a tether.
• Monster AC317: Strengths feature Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, an impressive 24-hour total playback window, and an open-ear design that keeps you aware of your surroundings. Trade-off: It lacks active noise cancellation and relies entirely on battery power, requiring regular charging cycles.
• Who each pick is for: Choose the Williams AV unit if you prioritize hearing clarity in a stationary or assisted setting; choose the Monster earbuds if you are looking for the best comfortable wireless headphones for gym sessions where mobility is key.
The Williams AV Sound HED 027 is not a gadget for the casual listener; it is a precision instrument designed for those who require reliable audio delivery in environments where hearing preservation or amplification matters. Its construction features a heavy-duty folding mono design, which suggests it is built to withstand daily wear and tear far better than flimsy consumer electronics. The enclosure combines metal and plastic, giving it a substantial feel that signals longevity. This is not a product you will lose easily in a pocket or gym bag because of its robust assembly.

At the heart of this device is a 40-millimeter dynamic driver capable of handling up to 100mW of max power input. The frequency range spans from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, ensuring a full spectrum of sound reproduction. However, the specific tuning is rated for mild and low gain hearing loss, meaning it is calibrated to deliver clarity rather than just bass-heavy entertainment. The 16-ohm impedance ensures it pairs perfectly with compatible receivers without needing excessive power, delivering a clean signal directly through its 39-inch cord.
This headphone is explicitly for adults who need a secure, over-ear fit with rounded tips for comfort during extended listening periods. The fact that it includes replaceable ear-pads (specifically model EAR 035) indicates that Williams anticipates long-term use where hygiene and cushioning integrity are vital. If you are using a Williams AV receiver or a Pocketalker, this is the dedicated partner that has been rigorously tested for compatibility. It is the choice for someone who values a wired connection for zero latency and absolute reliability over the convenience of wireless freedom.
In stark contrast, the Monster AC317 is built for the person who refuses to be tethered by a wire while moving. It utilizes an open-ear design with an ergonomic hook that provides a soft yet secure grip, making it one of the best sweat-resistant bluetooth headsets for gym enthusiasts who cannot afford their earbuds falling out during a sprint or a set of heavy lifts. The lack of an in-ear insertion means you stay connected to your favorite audio without blocking out the world around you, a crucial safety feature for runners or cyclists training outdoors.
The technical backbone here is Bluetooth 5.4 technology, which promises a fast and stable connection with minimal latency. This ensures that when you are watching workout videos or listening to music with video content, the audio stays perfectly synced with the action. The device manages calls with AI noise reduction algorithms, minimizing distractions so your conversations remain crystal clear even in noisy environments. With a touch control interface, you can manage volume, switch tracks, and answer calls with simple gestures, keeping your hands free for equipment or hydration.
Battery anxiety is effectively eliminated with this model. You get 7 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, and the included carrying case extends that total usage to 24 hours. A full charge takes only one hour via Type-C fast charging, meaning you can top up quickly between sessions. The dynamic drivers are tuned to enhance mid-to-high frequencies, providing a premium audio experience that cuts through the background noise of a busy gym. If you need the best rechargeable ear clip headphones for gym activities where security and battery endurance are non-negotiable, this is the device designed specifically for that purpose.
• Best for battery life → Monster AC317: With a 24-hour total capacity and Type-C fast charging, it wins decisively over the wired Williams option which has no internal battery.
• Best for hearing clarity and amplification → Williams AV Sound HED 027: Its specific rating for mild and low gain hearing loss and 16-ohm impedance make it superior for assistive audio needs.
• Best for situational awareness → Monster AC317: The open-ear design allows you to hear traffic, gym announcements, and others around you, whereas the over-ear Williams cups seal the ear more tightly.
• Best for durability in assistive setups → Williams AV Sound HED 027: The metal and plastic heavy-duty build is engineered for professional or medical-grade reliability with Williams AV systems.
• Best for active sports → Monster AC317: The sweat-resistant rating and secure ear-hook fit make it the only logical choice for intense physical activity.
• Best for zero-latency wired performance → Williams AV Sound HED 027: The 39-inch cord eliminates any wireless interference or compression lag inherent in Bluetooth transmission.
• Best for smart controls → Monster AC317: Touch and voice control integration offers a level of convenience the manual Williams model does not provide.
• Best value for versatility → Monster AC317: Its ability to function as both a workout companion and a general-purpose wireless earbud gives it broader utility for most users.
For the vast majority of people, especially those asking about fitness gear, the Monster AC317 is the clear winner. I would buy the Monster AC317 because its combination of Bluetooth 5.4 stability, 24-hour battery life, and secure open-ear design solves the real-world problems of wireless instability and discomfort during exercise. It is the best sweat resistant bluetooth headset for gym use precisely because it lets you move freely without compromising audio quality or safety. While the Williams AV Sound HED 027 is an excellent piece of specialized hardware for hearing assistance, it simply does not fit the modern lifestyle requirements of active users.
The Monster AC317 is explicitly sweat-resistant and features a secure ear-hook design, making it ideal for gym use. The Williams AV Sound HED 027 is a wired, over-ear device not designed for high-movement activities.
No, they use an open-ear design to keep your ears open to your surroundings, prioritizing safety and situational awareness over isolation. The Williams model provides a more sealed over-ear experience but lacks active noise cancellation.
You get 7 hours per charge from the buds alone, extending to 24 hours total with the included charging case, which supports fast Type-C charging.
It uses a standard 3.5mm plug and is primarily optimized for Williams AV receivers and Pocketalkers, whereas the Monster AC317 connects wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.4 for universal smartphone compatibility.
