Wild About Rogerstone
What's On?
We have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to construct a giant, 30ft dragonfly in The Glade Community Garden! The idea for the project came from our volunteers who noticed the shape of existing flower beds were like the wings of a dragonfly. We added some eyes and left long grass for a body but the new sculpture will really make the giant dragonfly come to life! Learn more
About the Group
Wild about Rogerstone is a voluntary group aiming to create places for nature in public spaces around Rogerstone and encourage local people to provide habitats for wildlife in their gardens. Since 2019, the group has set up several initiatives, establishing a community garden, creating a meadow and setting up an allotment. These are all run by volunteers from Wild about Rogerstone in a wildlife-and planet-friendly way. Learn more
The Glade Community Garden was set up in the Rogerstone Welfare Grounds in 2021 with the help of Heritage Lottery and Local Places for Nature funding. The garden is open to the public whenever the park is and visitors are able to learn about fruit and vegetables as well as pick any that are ready to harvest. The community garden welcomes school groups and runs events to share wildlife-friendly gardening knowledge. Learn more
Our allotment site was established in 2022 with funding from Newport Council’s participatory budget Covid recovery fund on a disused part of Bethesda allotments, managed by Rogerstone Community Council. We are now able to raise plants from seed to share with the community and plant out in The Glade Community Garden. Learn more
In 2020, Wild about Rogerstone received citizen panel funding from Rogerstone Community Council to create a wildflower meadow within the Rogerstone Welfare Grounds. Learn more
