Wild Life chronicles the close relationship of conservationist Kris Tompkins, the first CEO of outdoor brand Patagonia, and her husband Douglas Tompkins, an outdoorsman and entrepreneur who founded The North Face and co-founded Esprit. Together, spanning decades of work, they created national parks throughout Chile and Argentina and preserved one of the last wild places on Earth by making the largest private land donation in history.

Wildlife Safaris are an all-weather event, however during periods of inclement weather please call 619-718-3000 to check the status of your tour. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park reserves the right to cancel or reroute a tour due to inclement weather, animal health, and/or safety concerns. In the event of cancellation, efforts will be made to reschedule you on a later tour.

For the safety of our wildlife and the comfort of our guests, outside food and beverages, selfie sticks, and tripods (except tripods used as monopods) are not permitted. Guests may bring drinking water; closed-lid containers are recommended.

If anyone in your party requires the use of a wheelchair during the tour, after booking, please call 619-718-3000 so we can notate your order prior to your visit. For the health and safety of wildlife, service animals are not permitted on Wildlife Safaris.

Your showerhead is personal. It is the conduit through which water falls on you to keep you clean. It is also full of life. Showerheads can, in other words, clean you and dirty you at the same time. We are interested in the life in showerheads, particularly the life that accumulates in biofilms (tiny microbial cities) inside the showerheads. There are many reasons to be interested in these biofilms. For ecologists, these biofilms are relatively simple (they tend to contain few species) and discreet enough to be understood. When I was in my 20s, I started really getting into photography. In 2007, I had just bought a new digital camera and was spending my days trying to sneak up on various wildlife species, hoping for that one epic shot. One spring day, I decided to hike, climb, and scramble up into a maze of rocky cliffs in a favorite Bitterroot Mountains canyon. At the top of a particularly narrow pathway leading into a cathedral of towering granite spires and cliffs, I pulled myself onto a precarious ledge. There, before me just 20 yards away, was a nanny mountain goat, perhaps with parasites or a disease causing hair loss, with a brand-new kid by her side.

The park also features a variety of captive animals such as alligators, black bears, red wolf, Key deer, flamingos, whooping cranes and the oldest hippopotamus in captivity. The native wildlife that reside in the park serve as ambassadors for their species, providing visitors face-to-face connections with the animals and their habitats. Each with a unique life story, all of the animal inhabitants are here for the same reason - they are unable to survive in the wild on their own.

We are super excited to be lauching our Comedy Wildlife Guided African Safari (yup, i know, catchy title) for October 2024. Not only guided by the legendary Kate Humble, but also our founders Paul Joynson-Hicks, a wildlife Photographer and Tom Sullam who takes pictures of things that dont move...zzzz I jest of course, he is an award-winning landscape photographer so ideally placed for our African adventure. Its a small group of 12 people maximum in three vehicles, so loads of space. Its an adventure.

Wildlife rehabilitation is a licensed activity in Wisconsin and is defined as providing temporary care to an injured, orphaned or ill wild animal to release it back into its environment. Scroll to the bottom of this page to find a directory of licensed wildlife rehabilitators across the state.

Help reserve space for wild animals truly in need. Always call a licensed wildlife rehabilitator before assuming a wild animal needs help. Many wildlife rehabilitators may temporarily modify how they can assist injured, orphaned or sick wildlife in protecting their health and safety.

It remains a concern whether SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 in people, can become established in wild animal populations. Beyond the potential threat to wildlife, this could also threaten human health should the virus become established in the wild and a reservoir. 6190a8d2fd
