John Chrastil of Hallam passed away in January of 2014. In his will he directed $10,000.00 to the Wilber Clatonia Public School Foundation for scholarships to graduating seniors. The funds were in honor of his two grandsons, Kristopher Holsing and Andrew Holsing. The $500.00 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in either Agriculture or Criminal Justice, just as his grandsons chose. The scholarship recipient may attend a two or four-year college, must be a dedicated student showing
commitment to school activities, and financial need will be considered. The Holsing family will select the recipient(s) and if no senior matches the scholarship requirements, it will carry over for the next year. Mr. Chrastil wanted to honor his grandsons as he invested in the educational future of other Wilber Clatonia graduating seniors.
John F. Chrastil, age 75, of Hallam, died Friday, January 31, 2014, with his wife Janet at his side. Born in rural Lancaster County to Adolph and Agnes (Pospisil).
Retired US Letter Carrier, Army veteran, and a man who enjoyed travelling and playing cards with family and friends.
