Cupertino Union School District
Board of Education Candidate
I am running for a seat on the Board of Education at my local Cupertino Union School District. My son William just entered Kindergarten at Stevens Creek Elementary and I want him to have the best possible education available.
I am hearing a lot of concern from community members about my level of experience when it comes to schools. Granted, I do not have the deep resume of PTA/PTO and site council commitment as most school board candidates. People ask me what do you bring to the table, how will you complement the other Board Members?
I have lived in Cupertino for the past decade and when I looked in my own backyard to help the community there was a lower need here compared to other disenfranchised communities across the Bay. I focused my efforts to bring energy equity to the neediest by installing solar on low-income homes in San Jose, Oakland, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and San Francisco with GRID Alternatives.
I recently focused on the needs of our under-served and growing population of Military Veterans. Our brothers and sisters returning home from deployment are not receiving the appropriate level of care, especially when it comes to the heavy mental health tolls that active duty creates. For some like my father, PTSD related issues can emerge decades in the future. We need to be there for them because they put their lives on the line for us!
Back to the question at hand. I will play a complementary role on the board by providing a different perspective and looking at the issues from another angle. I am a man of action who walks the walk. If you do not want business as usual then vote for change.
