Wikipedia is not a soapbox for individuals to espouse their views. However, views held by politicians, writers, and others may be summarized in their biography only to the extent those views are covered by reliable sources that are independent of the control of the politician, writer, etc.

Any parameters left blank or omitted will not be displayed. Many parameters have alternative names, implemented for compatibility with other templates (especially to aid merging). The preferred names are shown in the table below.

This style is best for long items, and longer lists. For long lists of information that may not be of immediate interest but retained for reference, the {{collapsible list}} template can be used; this is not a universally accessible option, so should not be used for key information.

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Place of birth: city, administrative region, sovereign state. Use the name of the birthplace at the time of birth, e.g.: Saigon (prior to 1976), Ho Chi Minh City (post 1976). Do not use a flag template.

Date of baptism: ONLY for use when birth date is not known (e.g., Beethoven). Will not display if a birth date is entered. Do not use subtemplates. Parameter 'baptized' can be used for articles that use American english spelling.

Place of death: city, administrative region, sovereign state. Note: Do not use a flag template. Use the name of the deathplace at the time of death, e.g.: Saigon (prior to 1976), Ho Chi Minh City (post 1976)

Nationality. May be used instead of citizenship (below) or vice versa in cases where any confusion could result. Should only be used 'with' citizenship when they somehow differ. Should only be used if nationality cannot be inferred from the birthplace per [[WP:INFONAT]]. Do not use a flag template.

Country of legal citizenship, if different from nationality. Rarely needed. See usage notes for nationality above. Should only be used if citizenship cannot be inferred from the birthplace. Do not use a flag template.

Word of caution! Certain biography articles have opposition camps on infoboxes. With the current work groups, it is generally safe, but, for instance, scientist articles can have some heated debates on these. So, if you are intending to apply one of the templates to an article about a scientist, academic, or classical composer, musician or singer, first ask on the Talk page.

The following code uses the obsolete subtemplate Template:WikiProject Biography/class to populate Category:Incorrectly tagged WikiProject Biography articles. Is this tracking category still needed? If so, I will find a different way of tracking these. If not, can I remove this code?

This template is used to configure the articles found in the Selected person or Selected biography section found on most Wikipedia Portal main pages. Use it on the article pages that are linked to the Selected person sub-page, e.g. Portal:tag_hash_112___/Selected person/1. For the quickest and easiest way to create the Portal:tag_hash_113___/Selected tag_hash_114___ sub-page and related article links, use one of the {{Numbered subpages}} templates.

The long form of this template places the subjects name immediately to the left of the portrait and gives you the option of adding birth and death years. If the |born= field is not included, the template will not include the |died= field.

This infobox template is not used for Canadian football players, coaches and administrators; Template:Infobox CFL biography is used for Canadian football personnel. This template is also not used for American college football players, which use Template:Infobox college football player, nor for American college football coaches, which use Template:Infobox college coach, the uniform template for college coaches in all American college sports.

New stub templates and categories (collectively "stub types") should not be created without prior proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This allows for the proper coordination of all stub types across Wikipedia, and for the checking of any new stub type for possible problems prior to its creation.

The module or module2 parameters are used for embedding other templates into this infobox (see Wikipedia:Infobox modules). The contents of module are displayed below the website and above the medals. The contents of module2 are displayed at the bottom of infobox, below the medals.

{{Infobox handball biography}} is intended to provide a quick overview of a handball player's or manager's details to enable a reader to extract the most oft-needed information without trawling through the article proper. It is most appropriately used for professional players and managers and should not be leveraged for amateurs, no matter their profile.

This infobox may be used to create a genre-specific section within {{Infobox person}} (or similar biographical infobox templates) for cases where a person may be notable in more than one field; a generic example is shown below. For guidance on usage, see Wikipedia:Infobox modules. Also see the Template:Infobox documentation which explains embedding and subboxes.

Because the {{WikiProject Biography}} template is used on almost two million pages, and that it puts a big strain on the servers every time it is updated (see the job queue), the template is currently protected and can be edited only by template editors and administrators.

Please note: This template should be transcluded as {{WikiProject Biography}} and not substituted, because it employs conditional code. Transclusion also allows easy updating of all the Project's talk pages without having to edit hundreds of thousands of pages. Many of these parameters place the talk page of the article into an appropriate category. A manually generated (though sporadically updated) list of all the categories used in this template is at Template:WikiProject Biography/category list.

When using the "id" parameter or unnamed parameter 1, setting "inline" to any value such as "yes" or "1" prevents the template from displaying a leading bullet before the text; this is necessary when using this template for an inline citation.

All templates from the medal record infobox except {{MedalTableTop}} and {{MedalBottom}}.Set out the medal templates in the order stated in the medal templates documentation, and arrange the competitions alphabetically by name.

The subject's nationality. May be used instead of citizenship (below) or vice versa in cases where any confusion could result. Should only be used with citizenship when they somehow differ. Should only be used if nationality cannot be inferred from the birthplace. Do not use a flag template. This parameter is not displayed when the national_team parameter is defined.

The country or countries that the subject represents in sport, if any (not all sports involve nationalistic representation). Do not use a flag template. Wikilink the country name only if doing so would not be redundant with links already present in prior parameters. Use {{ubl}} or {{plain list}} to format multiple entries, and use common sense explanatory notes if needed: {{ubl|United Kingdom (assoc. football, rugby league)|[[New Zealand]] (rugby union)}}

This template can be used to provide comparative at-a-glance information on biographies of religious figures. It is not intended to be used for mythological figures (consider using other infoboxes for them like {{Infobox character}}). It is not intended to be used for biographies not having any religion (consider using other infobox for them like {{Infobox philosopher}}).

For the disqualified medal template, it is possible to create a reference directly after the template to explain the reason for disqualification. This can be particularly useful in the case of relay runners disqualified through no fault of their own, due to doping by team mates for example.

Where an athlete has competed for multiple countries or in multiple sports it will be necessary to use the Country or Sport Medal types, in addition to the main sport and country_code listings in the MedalTableTop template ff782bc1db
