Why should I meditate?
There are many reasons!
Life is stressful and fast paced. Social media continues to limit verbal and interpersonal communication, limiting actual emotional interactions. Holding onto negative emotions causes inner turmoil and can damage the relationships we have with our loved ones. Meditation helps to calm the mind and regain control of one's self, allowing interpersonal relationships to benefit. When members of a family or household have a regular meditation practice, there is greater harmony, better sleep, and less anxiety. Even young children can be taught to meditate!
Mindfulness
Meditation allows the brain to focus on being present, or aware of the current surroundings. It means being aware of even the simple things in life and living in the moment. Social media can cause many to feel like they are missing out because someone else always has it better. Being mindful can help bring you back to your current surroundings and help you be more content. There are apps that can help children and teens easily access guided meditations.
Better focus and attention
Meditation allows you to calm down and delay emotionally based reactions. It also increases your ability to focus on the task at hand instead of multitasking, which has proven to interfere with task completion and memory recall. It can also eliminate or decrease the need for medication.
Sleep
Many people struggle with insomnia, including children and teenagers. Listening to a calming meditation instead of watching tv or scrolling through social media slows your mind and allows you to drift off to sleep. Being well rested contributes to a positive mood during the day that also helps you deal with daytime stressors.
Physical Benefits
Having a less stressful life through meditative practice can improve aspects of your physical health. Lower blood pressure, decreased inflammation, improved brain activity, and less depression are just some of the benefits those who meditate experience.
