Just brought home my first mac ever, macbook pro 13" retina. In the apple store the sales guy set up gmail through the apple mail program, but we didn't actually check it. All I had to do was add account and sign in with my google info. i've just tried to send an email now and get this error message:

All of a sudden my gmail account disappeared on my MacBook Pro. All I have now is my icloud account and that's not helpful. I go to system preferences, add an account. When I highlight Google to restore my gmail account nothing happens. I just get a blank white box. I've been to the Apple store twice and have had 5 Genius guys look at it. No one can fix the problem and so I can no longer get my email through safari, I need to go to Google which is cumbersome. Also, on the laptop I only have 30 days of emails. To get all the emails in my inbox I have to use my phone - not a good solution for me as I want to type on a keyboard and also I have files set up.

Could you tell me how to get the Show in IMAP column to appear? I'm on the Labels tab in gmail settings, but the Show in IMAP column isn't there. Would really like to get rid of Important folder in the Mail app on my iMac.

Go to gmail's website and click on the settings. Go to manage labels. From the Labels tab, you can delete any folders at the bottom of the window that you create. In the top section of the window, you can choose what mailboxes you want shown in IMAP with the column to show in IMAP. Uncheck all you do not wish to see in Mail.

Also, looking at the mailboxes under the gmail imap folder, you have not synced any of the mailboxes to Mail's main mailboxes. That means the gmail mailboxes under the main mailboxes (sent, trash, drafts, & junk) are local mailboxes on the Mac.

I gave you specifics on stopping the mailboxes from showing in Mail. Read gmail's help to better understand how it works and I will be willing to help you with any questions that you don't understand.

At the gmail website, check the box for just the folders you want last column (Show in IMAP- meaning what will be listed under gmail in the sidebar). The second column (Show in Label List) is what you see at the gmail site. You can show or hide folders you want there.

Your main goal from you post is to remove duplicate messages from Mail. Since all of you IMAP mailboxes are listed under the gmail imap account folder, that means none are mapped to the main mailbox (except inbox which is done by default and is why it doesn't appear under the gmail folder). That means the rest of the folders under Mail's main mailboxes are local folders. So moving messages from the inbox to the trash in mail creates a local copy in mail's trash, and a copy in gmail's imap deleted items folder. You can empyt the trash on the mac and it will not affect the message in the imap folder.

Here's where gmail is confusing. The first deletion in gmail's trash (under the gmail folder) moves the message to the deleted items folder. Deleting it again moves it to the trash. The third deletion should get rid of it.

You can choose to leave it as is and deal only with the IMAP inbox on you computer and not show any other imap folders in IMAP. That means you will have to go to the gmail site from time to time to clear out the messages there.

Here's what I suggest to make gmail act more like what you mac's main mailboxes will do and will sync at the site. You need to map the Sent Mail from the gmail folder to Mail's main Sent mailbox. To do this, select the Sent Mail under gmail's folder and highlight it. Go to Mailboxes in the menu and select Use This Mailbox for and choose Sent. This will move the Sent Mail mailbox from the gmail folder to Mail's Sent mailbox. If you have a local mailbox for that account already, it will push it out of the main to the sidebar under ON My Mac (you can check any messages in it, move or delete them, and also then delete the local mailbox).

This might be a settings issue. Ensure that you're using the right IMAP settings for Gmail on your Apple Mail (Incoming: imap.gmail.com, Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com). Also, under "Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts", check that "Automatically manage connection settings" is unchecked and input the correct IMAP settings manually.

servers are correct and OS is up to date. No issues with 2 other gmail accounts. I don't see a setting to allow less secure apps. I've asked our sys admin if this is within his control. As far as I can see Ventura doesn't allow manual IMAP server settings; just the smtp.

I discovered this change in behavior about a month ago. After some research, it turned out that Google has implemented some nw security protocol for incoming mail connections. I had a very old Mac (2009) that couldn't update past High Sierra, so I specifically bought a shiny new Mini to solve this problem. The problem isn't solved. I can send a single email to address1@gmail.com, address2@gmail.com, and address3@utexas.edu (that last is handled through Gmail). The first two never arrive; the third arrives at my utexas.edu account just fine.

Are you using Google's 2 step verifications? Do you have Google's authenticator app for generating unlock codes off your iphone? You can also generate app specific passwords in Google's security settings and use that password instead of your normal password to let your Mac have full gmail access.

In addition to downloading Shift, you can get Gmail on your desktop through other separate email clients as well. However, these options require more steps than using Shift as a desktop email client. Shift provides a gmail app for PC so you can manage as many gmail accounts as you want right from your desktop.

There are also several third-party apps for Mac that you can use to get gmail on your desktop. This article explains four other options, in addition to the Mail app, (Go for Gmail, Kiwi for Gmail, Mailplane, and Wavebox) for downloadable desktop apps to get Gmail on your Mac.

When one of my colleagues tries to attach a file in gmail, using Google Chrome - she clicks the attach icon and selects the file, a graduation bar is displayed, as if the file is uploading, but there's no progress in the bar and the file never gets attached. We're able to use Safari on the same Macbook without issues.

Now, it will only paste the gmail web link no matter what i shortcut, unless i highlight the email text, left click, manually press copy, and then paste. This counts for any attachments in emails as well

Firstly, the image does not come from the gmail contact, it comes from the gmail "My picture" setting. If you go into settings in gmail the incorrect picture is shown there as well. It might well originate from the Mac contact, but in gmail it does NOT come from the contact, so updating the contact in gmail will not change it.

Secondly, switching off contact sync to solve this is really not a solution. If you have hundreds of contacts that you would like to keep in sync then it doesn't make sense to switch it off just because Apple has introduced some rogue behaviour that updates a gmail setting from one contact instead of just syncing the contacts like it was supposed to.

Thirdly, when I do go to my own contact in Gmail, the image is not the incorrect Apple one, it's my image that I want to use. So it seems that the contact sync, instead of syncing the contact image to the contact (which would make some sense) actually does not do that and instead it updates the Gmail picture setting. I'm not 100% sure it is the contact sync that's to blame though. From various google forums posts a lot of users reported similar behaviour with chat clients (esp. Pidgin) updating the gmail pic, so I suspect Jabber in my case is to blame and not the contact sync.

1. Open gmail in your chrome browser. On the right side of your address bar there will be a gray double diamond icon, called the "protocol handler icon". (If you do not see the icon, skip to step 3) note: you must be logged into gmail and have the gmail tab opened to see this icon

Hello all:

Some one was using my mac, and he signed in using his gmail account, and he signed out from a long time ago.

so, i need to remove his gmail account from safari default Gmail, because each time i need to use a website with gmail, it suggest my friend's gmail as a default gmail account,

i hit next then change the default account to be mine, but is there a way to remove this account?

His password is not in my Keychain or someting, so can not sign in or even remove it as a solution for this.

Any help will be highly appreciated

Go to system preferences>internet accounts if you're in MacOS. Interact with the table and select the gmail account to be deleted. uninteract with the table, tab to the right, and click on the button to delete/remove it. Voila! smile

As well as adding gmail apps to your mac you should also look at adding Gmail extensions to your Gmail. If you want to skyrocket your productivity in 2023, then using Gmail in conjunction with extensions is a great way to go. Right Inbox is a must have extension that includes features such as email templates, email tracking, recurring emails, email sequences, and much more. Try for free today!

Google would prefer that apps use a different mechanism, called OAuth. An overly simplified description of that mechanism is that the app uses a token to authenticate itself to gmail. Instead of sending your username and password over the encrypted communication channel, it sends the token over the encrypted connection. ff782bc1db
