Term 1 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 55 Thursday 18th September 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a shocking start to the term – but all in the best way! Year 4 were shocked at how much their handwriting has improved in just three weeks, and Year 2 shocked their teacher with how confidently they’re already writing. These are the kind of shocks I love!
On the subject of shocks… thank you for your patience while we deal with the kitchen power supply. The children have been charged up about the picnic-style lunches and have taken the change in their stride. We hope to have the hot menu back on the table very soon – watch this space!
Our after-school clubs are also sparking interest again – thank you for bearing with us while the Bromcom system had its little outage. And if you haven’t booked into the JAGs breakfast club yet, now’s the time. Numbers are slowly climbing, but the service is under review in October. If numbers do not rise, the club will sadly have to stop. Please do book if you can – it runs from 7.30am and could make mornings easier for many families. JAGs have also shortened their cancellation window to 48 hours, and switching from a 4.30 to a 3.30 pick-up is now completely free. Just email hello@junioradventuresgroup.co.uk and they’ll help.
A quick reminder about punctuality: for Years 1–6, children should be in class and ready to learn by 8.50am. Arriving on time means they can greet their friends, settle calmly, and get the very best start to their learning. Thank you for helping us make mornings positive and productive for all children.
Finally, please see the attached flyer from Thriving Stockwell about a new LGBTQ+ parents’ group starting locally. This is a great opportunity to connect, share experiences, and build community.
Thank you, as always, for your support – you keep us switched on and shining bright!
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher

A Reminder About Appointments
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents arrange medical or personal appointments for their children outside of school hours. There are only 190 school days in the year, but a generous 175 non-school days available for holidays, family time, and events. By keeping appointments to these non-school days, we can work together to make sure every child enjoys the very best attendance and learning opportunities. Thank you for your support!
📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 66% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 37% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
We aim for 95% attendance - well done to Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 for achieving this so far this term. Overall we are nearly 95% for this academic year. We are so very very close the 95% target and with your help we could still achieve this by the end of the term. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Changes to How Parents Book
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
Rise then Shine Breakfast Club will re-start in September from 7.30am.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
This will be from 7.30am - please book now!
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

For children starting back at primary school this year, there are new opportunities and new challenges.
Help them get the most out of the technology around them by building good online safety habits now.
With over 900 million monthly users, Snapchat continues to be a favourite among children and young people; however, with its ever-evolving features, the risks have evolved too. From AI-generated filters and chatbots, to disappearing messages and the Snap Map location-sharing tool, it’s easy for children to stumble into unsafe territory. This guide breaks down the latest updates, including the Lens+ subscription service, and web browser access.
We’ve also unpacked the risks of sextortion scams, overuse, and inappropriate content that may slip through the app’s moderation systems. With expert advice from online safety consultant Dr Claire Sutherland, this guide is a must-read for anyone helping young people navigate Snapchat responsibly and confidently.
