Term 6 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 52 Thursday 26th June 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Let’s start with some big thank yous! Thank you to the wonderful organisers of the Eid Fair — the food was delicious and the community spirit was truly shining.
A huge thank you as well to everyone who came along to support Sports Day — the banners, special t-shirts, and cheers made it such a joyful day. And hats off to the good-spirited parents who WON the relay race!
Please can ALL parents complete this survey to find out about the need for JAG Breakfast Club starting in September - please let us know - if we do not have 10+ children needing the club BEFORE 8.30am daily then it will not start up again so it is really important that you vote now. Thank you in advance.
https://forms.gle/upCdJei95b4KSQm57 The survey is also at the end of this newsletter for your convenience.
Summer, summer, summertime… The Summer Fair is fast approaching! Please check the letter sent out today (also on the website) to find out how you can support and join in the fun.
The weather is heating up — we’ve been enjoying the sunshine while reminding children (again!) to take off their fleeces... they do love them a little too much! Please remember our sunny weather rule: Sip, Slap, Slop! (Sip water, slap on a hat, and slop on some sun cream.) Check out X to see how we’ve been helping the children stay cool.
We’re on the move — class trips are well underway! Please remind your children to represent Herbert Morrison with pride when out and about. We are always delighted when members of the public call us to praise how exceptionally well-behaved our children are.
Tomorrow, we welcome back NED with an exciting show about resilience, determination, and growth mindset — all through the power of yo-yoing! This is advance notice that we’ll be selling NED yo-yos from the office following the performance. Please note — there is absolutely no obligation to buy one, and any yo-yo from home is perfectly fine. Let’s start a fun craze of determination, practice, and success!
You may have already heard… the legendary HM Talent Show auditions are underway in classes! We can’t wait to showcase the children’s talents. A reminder that the Talent Show is a pupil-only event, but we’ll share a sneak peek video on the ‘Events to Remember’ page of the website afterwards.
And finally, the PTA Herbert Morrison Cook Book is nearly ready to print! We’ve extended the cover design competition until Monday, so if your child would like to submit an idea that celebrates the rich diversity of our community, please hand it in to me on Monday morning.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake

Trips out of school are a powerful way to bring learning to life. They give children real-world experiences that help deepen their understanding of classroom topics, spark curiosity, and build connections beyond the school walls. Whether visiting a museum, exploring nature, or seeing history firsthand, trips make learning memorable and meaningful. They also help develop confidence, independence, and teamwork — skills that benefit learning back in the classroom.
The Natural History Museum
These children have been recognised for their incredible effort and excellence! They will receive a golden certificate, a big round of applause during the celebration assembly, and a coveted spot in the prestigious Gold Book. Well done to all our shining stars!

Changes to How Parents Book
From Tuesday 6th May 2025 at 7am, families will be able to book wraparound care for the entire 2025/26 academic year using our new recurring booking model:
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
We are expecting the Rise then Shine Breakfast Club from 7.30am to start again in September when we have a new class of children to join and hopefully top up the numbers.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

💛🤝 Teaching Friendship Through RRSA
At Herbert Morrison Primary School, we believe that friendship is one of the most powerful ways children grow, feel safe, and thrive. True friendship teaches kindness, respect, and understanding — skills that last a lifetime.
🔹🌍🌟 Being a Kind and Supportive Friend (Article 15) – Every child has the right to meet with friends and join groups. We teach children that friendship means including others, listening, and offering support — whether in the classroom, on the playground, or beyond.
🔹🌍🌟 Understanding Each Other (Article 29) – Friendship helps children develop empathy and respect for everyone’s background, talents, and beliefs. We encourage children to celebrate differences and learn that being a good friend sometimes means saying sorry, forgiving, or helping someone in need.
🔹🌍🌟 Creating a Safe and Happy School (Article 3) – Friends help keep each other safe, happy, and ready to learn. We remind children that small acts of kindness — sharing a smile, offering help, or checking in on someone — make a big difference in our school community.
At Herbert Morrison, friendship means showing kindness every day, looking after one another, and knowing that together, we are stronger. Thank you for helping us grow a community where everyone belongs. 🤗🌟
YouTube Kids promises a safe, child-centric experience with colourful visuals, age-filtered content, and robust parental controls. Designed to appeal to younger viewers, the app has grown rapidly, being used by tens of millions of children worldwide. But is it as safe as it seems?
Despite YouTube Kids’ safeguards, reports have highlighted worrying issues, such as inappropriate content slipping through filters, subtle advertising, and the use of manipulative design to keep children engaged. Our guide explores how to navigate these pitfalls, offering practical advice for making sure children get the most from the platform – without the risks.
