Term 1 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 37 Thursday 17th October 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
As a school, we have wholeheartedly embraced inclusion, and our Black History Month Open Morning was a testament to this commitment. It was wonderful to see such high engagement from our community, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for attending and making it a truly memorable event. I hope you enjoy the video of the event in the 'Recapping the Remarkable' section of the Newsletter. At our school, Black History is an integral part of our everyday curriculum, not just during October, as we strive to celebrate diversity throughout the year.
In addition to celebrating Black History Month, October is also Inclusion Month, and we’ve fully embraced that as well! I am particularly proud of a Year 3 child who came up with the brilliant idea of a card to award children who are noted for being especially inclusive and friendly. The children voted, with 100% agreeing, and this fantastic initiative has now been introduced in every class. Congratulations to Grace, who was the first recipient of this prestigious award!
Looking ahead to Term 2, please check the upcoming dates to support your planning. While we do not have an Open Morning in Term 2, we are excited for our Christmas Performances and Songs that will surely bring some festive cheer.
Finally, please join us tomorrow for our PTA Bake Sale, and remember that the last day of Term 1 is Friday, 25th October. Children are invited to wear their own clothes and bring in a small donation to support the school fund.
Thank you in advance for a fantastic Term 1. The children never cease to impress me with their creativity, kindness, and enthusiasm.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
Inclusion is about bringing people together, understanding and valuing the difference they bring so everyone can be themselves and reach their full potential.
100% of children voted to agree with the Rainbow Card.
Why do you think the Rainbow Behaviour Card is a good idea?
Whether it’s during a major event like bonfire night or simply while using a heater on a chilly day, fire safety is a vitally important topic on which to educate children and young people. One mistake with fireworks, electronics or open flames can have catastrophic consequences: damage to property, serious injury or even worse.
As parents and educators, it's vital that we teach the children in our care how to protect themselves around fire and flammable materials in a mature and responsible manner. This free guide offers expert advice on how to educate children and young people on fire safety, detailing what precautions can be taken to keep them as safe as possible when exposed to fire-related dangers.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that there has been a change to the Friday Fish vs Fish fingers following a democratic vote led by the children. Fish will be for 2 weeks and Fish fingers will be for 1 week out of the 3 as 30% votes for the fish fingers and 60% votes for fish!
