Mrs Peake's - Headteacher Highlights
I hope this newsletter finds you well and rested after the break. As we embark on Term 4, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the learning opportunities and growth that lie ahead.
Reflecting on Term 3:
Before we dive into the new term, let's take a moment to reflect on the achievements and successes of Term 3. Our students have shown resilience, creativity, and dedication in their studies, and I want to commend both students and staff for their hard work and commitment.
New Beginnings:
As we step into Term 4, we welcome new students and new staff, new challenges and new opportunities for learning. This term promises to be a time of exploration, innovation, and collaboration as we continue to strive for excellence in education.
Key Highlights and Events:
We have an exciting lineup of events and activities planned for this term, including:
Parents Evening: these conferences provide an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and set goals for the remainder of the academic year.
Open Morning: Reading Cafe invitation with the option of dressing up as a book character.
Author Visitors: We have 2 authors who are visiting to inspire our children on their writing journey. Remember the key to a good writer is a good reader. Please ensure your child is reading and writing at home.
Science Week: Exciting and experimental with a special invitation to Years 5 and 6 children who have stayed green over the term.
Clubs: Before school, during lunchtime, after school and even on a Saturday. These have started strongly this week and some conclude in a show at the Royal Festival Hall (cue the choir).
Focus on Well-being:
As always, the well-being of our students is a top priority. We will continue to provide support and resources to ensure that our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We have a variety of support in place including home log ins for Zumos, 121 and group therapy as well as counselling for children who need it.
Reminders and Updates:
Please ensure that children are in full uniform - trainers are only permitted with PE kits. Ties and water bottles are part of the expected school uniform.
Closing Thoughts:
I am confident that Term 4 will be a period of growth, learning, and shared achievements. Let's continue to work together to create a positive and nurturing environment for our students.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to another successful term!

READING AND WRITING FOR PLEASURE
Reading magazines has enthused our KS2 pupils. Thank you to Art in Year 4 for the incredibly welcome donation.
It is a delight to read the writing that children have completed at home as well as in school. Writing for pleasure is the first step in becoming an author

At Herbert Morrison we need attendance to be your priority. Attendance matters!
Please call the office to explain any absence - this is recorded on our system and saves office staff having to call you. Call between 8.30am and 8.50am on every day of absence or email admin@herbertmorrison.lambeth.sch.uk
Good attendance at school is the single most important factor to ensure that young people have the maximum life chances – attendance is strongly linked to educational achievement. Promoting positive school attendance is everyone’s responsibility.
Good attendance is important in order for children to:
Achieve their potential.
Develop a positive attitude towards school and maintain good habits of punctuality and attendance.
See themselves as an important part of the school community and to value and respect school life.
Questions to Consider:
Do you know what your child’s current attendance and/or punctuality figure is?
Do you know what this figure means?
Do you speak to your child about their attendance?
Do you communicate with the office on 0207 720 3439 when your child is not in school?

Family Well Being
Starting a conversation can be difficult, especially if you’re worried that your child is having a hard time. It doesn’t matter what topic the conversation starts with – it’s about the opportunity it gives you both to talk about feelings and to provide comfort.
Here are some conversation ideas to start things off...
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Well-being - MEASLES
Lambeth schools have been informed from the Council that 'we are anticipate a potential increase in measles cases associated with schools. Measles is a very infectious virus that can spread from person-to-person quickly, especially in education and childcare settings. A person with measles can spread the infection in the 4 days before they get the rash. Once a person has the rash, they can still spread the infection for another 4 days.
The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is the safest and most effective way to protect against measles. People need 2 doses of MMR vaccine to be protected against measles, mumps and rubella.'

The National Olne Safety #WakeupWednesday is included on our X ( aka Twitter ) @HerbMorrPriSch.
FAs infants, we all rely completely on adults to help us resolve situations that are causing us to become upset or stressed. This is known as co-regulation. The next phase, once autonomy has begun to develop, is called self-regulation: this is when children start to become capable of exercising more control over their impulses and behaviour, and managing their own emotions.
This vital developmental milestone, however, isn’t reached spontaneously. Learning to self-regulate requires sensitive guidance from trusted adults – simply talking with children about their thoughts and feelings, for instance, can ease the route to self-regulation. This #WakeUpWednesday guide has some expert tips for supporting children to reach this goal.
