Term 6 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 53 Thursday 9th July 2025
Final Newsletter of the Academic Year 2024/25
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we bring this school year to a close, our Value of the Week – Gratitude – feels like the perfect way to reflect on all that we’ve shared and achieved together.
It’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown by. We are now saying farewell to our wonderful Platypus Class, who leave us as confident, capable young people ready for their next adventure. It has been a privilege to watch them grow, and we are incredibly proud of their outstanding SATs results, which mark our best ever as a school.
These exceptional outcomes are the result of the children’s hard work, resilience, and determination, supported every step of the way by the dedicated staff who have taught and nurtured them throughout their time at Herbert Morrison. I want to express my deepest thanks to all staff, and in particular to Miss Miller, Miss Bea, Miss Lyhne, and Miss Shauntaye, for the tireless effort and care they have poured into this final year. Their commitment has made a real difference, and I am truly grateful.
I’d also like to say a heartfelt thank you to our fantastic PTA, whose energy, generosity, and good humour continue to uplift our whole community. From bake sales to book swaps, discos to the joyful Summer Fair, their efforts have created lasting memories for our children and families. Please do take a look at the PTA page in this newsletter to read their own words of thanks.
Today, your child will have brought home their end-of-year report. I hope you enjoy reading about their progress and all they’ve achieved—we are so proud of each and every one of them. You will also have received information about their next class teacher, and we warmly invite you to say hello at our optional Parents’ Evening on Tuesday.
Looking ahead, if you are planning uniform purchases for September, don’t forget to use the discount code INTAKE10 at MyClothing, valid until the end of July.
Next week, we will celebrate Wellbeing Week—a chance for reflection, joy, and connection as we finish the year. From yoga and creativity to community time and celebration, we hope it will be a positive and uplifting finale. We look forward to seeing many of you at our Whole School Picnic on Tuesday afternoon—a final moment together before we break for summer.
To each parent and carer—thank you for your support, encouragement, and partnership this year. Working alongside you has been a true privilege. To all the staff: your dedication, compassion, and daily efforts never go unnoticed—I am grateful to lead such a committed and caring team.
Wishing all of our families a peaceful, safe, and sunny summer. May it be filled with rest, laughter, and cherished moments.
With sincere gratitude,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher
We are saying goodbye to three wonderful members of staff this term, and they will all be very much missed.
Miss Bea has completed her teacher training with us, and we’re delighted to share that she has secured her first teaching position at a Lambeth school. We are so proud of her and know she will stay in touch as she continues to shine in her new role.
Miss Findlay is also moving on to another Lambeth school, having hopped, skipped and jumped her way into the hearts of children and staff alike! We look forward to bumping into her at the local café soon—once a friend of our school, always a friend.
Miss Lyhne is off on a globe-trotting adventure, no doubt collecting inspiration for future Cooking Club recipes along the way! We wish her safe and exciting travels and very much hope to welcome her back when she returns to London.
To all three: thank you for everything. Your energy, dedication, and care have made such a difference. We wish you the very best of luck on your next adventures!
This is a first for Herbert Morrison - but very timely! Parents and children have been cooking at the Nourish Workshop. Nursery has been eating a rainbow and all classes have a sensory food tasting session next week.
To top it all the Herbert Morrison Community Cookbook has been published with a foreword from your very own Headteacher!
Please support this wonderful fundraising by scanning to QR code. Thank you to the PTA for putting this together and for this tasty idea!

Changes to How Parents Book
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
Rise then Shine Breakfast Club will re-start in September from 7.30am.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
This will be from 7.30am from Tuesday 2nd September 2025 - please book now!
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

Can you show gratitude to someone even if they don’t know they’ve helped you?
(Encourages quiet reflection and appreciation of small acts of kindness.)
What’s more powerful: saying thank you with words or with actions?
(Explores the different ways we can show gratitude and make others feel valued.)
Who has helped you this year, and have you had the chance to thank them?
(Prompts thinking about acknowledging support and showing appreciation.)
Can you be grateful even when things haven’t gone your way?
(Encourages resilience and finding positives even in challenges.)

💛🌟 Teaching Gratitude Through RRSA
At Herbert Morrison Primary School, we believe that gratitude helps children grow into kind, reflective, and caring individuals. Learning to recognise and appreciate the good around us — and the people who support us — builds resilience, respect, and joy.
🔹🌍🌟 Appreciating Others (Article 29) – Education should help children develop their talents and learn to respect others. We teach children to notice the everyday kindness of friends, families, and staff, and to say thank you — whether through words, actions, or a smile.
🔹🌍🌟 Recognising Support and Care (Article 3) – The best interests of the child must come first. We encourage children to feel and show gratitude for the people who keep them safe and cared for — from teachers and classmates to lunch staff and cleaners. Everyone matters.
🔹🌍🌟 Celebrating Community (Article 15) – Every child has the right to connect with others. Gratitude brings us together, helping us build stronger relationships. Whether we’re working in a group, helping a friend, or reflecting on a special moment, we pause to say: “Thank you.”
At Herbert Morrison, gratitude means noticing the good, appreciating the people around us, and recognising that every act of kindness matters. Thank you for being part of a community where thankfulness helps us thrive. 🤗💛
AI isn’t just transforming the way we learn and work, it’s also reshaping the tactics scammers use online. From generating convincing phishing emails to fabricating influencer videos, criminals are using AI to make their scams more convincing than ever. Young people, who often embrace new tech quickly, can be especially vulnerable.
This guide highlights several AI-enabled dangers – including romance scams, deepfake audio and video impersonations, and fake job offers – and explains how to spot and report them. With clear tips for verifying content, thinking critically, and using trusted platforms, it’s essential reading for parents and educators to help young people stay one step ahead of the scammers.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
STOP PRESS - A NEW LUNCH MENU IS COMING FOR SEPTEMBER
