Term 6 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 51 Thursday 12th June 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we enter the final weeks of the school year, we’re proud to see children showing courage, our value of the week—whether it’s trying something new, speaking up, or preparing for change. It’s a quality we’re celebrating across the school.

🛂 Passport Support
We’re happy to help with passport applications or identity confirmations for a £5 admin donation to the school. Please ask in advance and include your child’s full name—we can’t access confirmation emails without it. We’ve had two recent requests with no names, so we’ve been unable to proceed.
🚗 No Idling, Please
Help us keep the air cleaner and our children safer by switching off engines when waiting near the school gates. Small actions make a big difference.
🎓 Year 6 Transitions
Our Year 6 pupils are beginning to visit their new secondary schools, and all children have confirmed placements. We know this is an emotional time. Year 5 and 6 parents, please take time to explore these helpful transition videos together:

Changes to How Parents Book
From Tuesday 6th May 2025 at 7am, families will be able to book wraparound care for the entire 2025/26 academic year using our new recurring booking model:
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
We are expecting the Rise then Shine Breakfast Club from 7.30am to start again in September when we have a new class of children to join and hopefully top up the numbers.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
Are heroes ever scared, or do they have to be brave all the time?
(Encourages discussion on whether fear and bravery can exist together.)
Can you still be courageous if no one sees what you did?
(Explores the idea of recognition and the value of silent courage.)
Is it braver to speak up or to stay quiet sometimes?
(Prompts thinking about different forms of bravery in everyday situations.)
🎵 Courage, Courage, What a Thing
(To the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
Courage, courage, what a thing,
Helps me do the hardest thing.
When I’m scared but still I try,
That’s the time I reach up high.
Big or small, I can be strong—
Even when things feel all wrong.
Courage, courage, shines in me,
Like a light for all to see!
At Herbert Morrison Primary School, we believe that courage is the quiet strength that helps children face challenges, try new things, and stand up for what’s right. When we nurture courage, we empower every child to be brave in their learning, choices, and relationships.
🔹 🌍🌟 Being Brave in Our Learning (Article 29) – Every child has the right to develop their personality, talents, and abilities to the fullest. We encourage children to show courage by trying even when something feels hard. Whether it’s speaking in assembly or tackling tricky maths, courage helps them grow.
🔹 🌍🌟 Speaking Up and Being Heard (Article 12) – Courage is at the heart of pupil voice. We teach children that their opinions matter, and we listen when they speak up. Through class councils and leadership roles, they learn that bravery includes respectful dialogue and standing up for others.
🔹 🌍🌟 Looking After Ourselves and Others (Article 3) – Arriving on time, wearing uniform with pride, and showing kindness are everyday acts of courage. These moments help children feel safe, respected, and ready to take on new experiences.
At Herbert Morrison, courage means trying even when it’s tough, speaking kindly and truthfully, and knowing that with support, we can all face challenges together. Thank you for building this courageous community with us.
The remarkable growth of generative AI tools like ChatGPT has opened up exciting new opportunities for young learners. Used wisely, AI can be a powerful ally in boosting creativity, learning and problem-solving skills. However, without proper guidance, young people may stumble into challenges including inaccurate information, data security risks, and a growing reliance on AI over their own critical thinking.
From setting clear usage boundaries to teaching digital hygiene and promoting independent thought, this guide offers parents and educators practical advice on the safe, positive use of AI. With the right understanding and guidance, you can ensure that generative AI becomes a positive influence, rather than a potential pitfall in young people’s digital lives.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
