Term 4 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 46 Thursday 20th March 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
The sun has finally got its hat on—hip hip hooray! What a joy to see blue skies again—spring is certainly in the air. 🌞🌸 Please take a look at our Spring Self-Care suggestions for you and your child—we are making the most of outdoor learning.
Our Gardening Ambassadors continue to work their green-fingered magic in our garden, and I’m sure you’ve noticed the hopeful daffodils blooming at the Hartington Road entrance. If not, be sure to take a look! 🌼
A huge thank you for completing the Parent Survey—your voice helps shape our actions. 134 families responded, and the results were overwhelmingly positive:
✔️ 98.5% of children have access to a device, but only 35% have filters set up. Please see the online safety section of this newsletter for guidance on setting up filters, and contact your internet provider for support.
Your positive comments about the school were shared with staff during our INSET day, and every teacher received a special mention from parents. It truly put a spring in our step—which was perfect, as it was a PE INSET! 🏃♂️🎉
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
⚠ If your child has vomited, we follow UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance ("Health protection in schools and other childcare facilities," updated October 2023) and NHS guidance:
✔ They should go home and stay off school for at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 61% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 39% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
We aim for 95% attendance - well done to Reception, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 for achieving this so far. Overall we are nearly 95% for this academic year. We are so very very close the 95% target and with your help we could still achieve this by the end of the year. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

The Herbert Morrison PTA would love to create a Herbert Morrison Cookbook! It would be fantastic if pupils, parents and staff could contribute recipes - or perhaps a parent does the recipe and their child can draw a picture to be published with it. We welcome all ideas from casseroles or curries to pies and cakes and more - it can be your favourite go to dish, a family tradition or a latest discovery. We want to highlight the diversity and culture of the school through the art of cooking. If there’s a story that goes alongside it, and you’re happy to, please include that also.
Full information can also be found on the flyer, or on the PTA Website at www.herbertmorrisonpta.co.uk

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
Can a baby ever be considered naughty?
In our school, we call them World Values. Do you know the 5 values? 🧐 They are Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. 🌍🇬🇧 #ValuesMatter
Teaching EMPATHY Through RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award) 🌍🤝
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) helps foster empathy by embedding children's rights into school culture. Here’s how:
🔹 Understanding Different Perspectives (Article 12 & 13) – Children are encouraged to express their views while listening to others, helping them appreciate different experiences and emotions.
🔹 Compassion in Action (Article 15 & 31) – Pupils engage in collaborative activities and play, learning to support and care for one another, strengthening their ability to empathize.
🔹 Caring for Others' Well-being (Article 19 & 24) – Children learn the importance of protecting and caring for others, recognizing when someone needs help and responding with kindness.
🔹 Respecting Diversity (Article 29 & 30) – By celebrating different cultures and backgrounds, pupils develop an appreciation for others’ feelings and experiences, fostering inclusivity and understanding.
By integrating RRSA principles, schools nurture a generation that values kindness, compassion, and respect—making the world a more empathetic place. 💙✨
Nurturing Online Safety
In today’s digital world, online safety must be nurtured just like any other life skill. Children can easily access content that may not be appropriate, so it’s crucial to discuss safe internet use with them regularly.
Ensure you have a filter on ALL devices—anything that connects to the internet needs attention to protect your child. Taking these steps helps create a safer, more secure online experience. Stay informed, stay involved, and keep them safe! 💻🔒
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
If your child qualifies for Pupil Premium - then please read this letter
