Term 2 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 41 Thursday 19th December 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the close of 2024, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible year we’ve had. It has truly been a year to remember, and we’ve ended it on a high note with the fantastic PTA event and the performances from our children over the last couple of weeks were nothing short of amazing, filling us with pride and showcasing the incredible talent across our school community, from our students to our staff and parents. I’m sure you all noticed the stunning balloon arch that added such a beautiful touch to the event last Friday– a symbol of our unity and celebration.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Miss Coombs for her unwavering dedication to inclusion. Her expertise in this area has placed her in high demand, and as a result, we are sharing her skills more widely across our Federated Schools. After nearly 10 years of incredible service at Herbert Morrison, she will no longer be based here. While we will miss her warm smile, she has assured us she will stay in touch and continue collaborating with us. Ms. Roche, who has been doing an excellent job as SENDCo since September, will continue working closely with Miss Coombs to ensure ongoing support for our children.
Looking ahead, the learning plans for next term, with an educational focus on progress and big challenges, have been uploaded to the school website and emailed to parents. We are excited to continue fostering a mindset that embraces these challenges, encouraging our children to rise to the occasion and push themselves further. The theme of "Big Challenges" will guide our learning next term, inspiring all of us to approach obstacles with resilience and determination.
I would like to publicly thank Wyvil School for hosting us while we didn't have many families who needed this service. The need for wraparound care has grown and we have outgrown their kind offer to host us. We certainly enjoyed our time with the Wyvil Team. Thank you :)
We are excited to introduce Junior Adventures Club as a new club for school wrap-around care from January. We strongly encourage all parents to register their child, whether or not you initially plan to use the provision. This will ensure that your child’s details are secured in case of any emergency bookings. Please complete the registration at your earliest convenience to guarantee your child’s place.
We have a new attendance and absence app - STUDY BUGS - to help us manage attendance. This works with you and will support reporting absence and checking on your child's attendance. Download the app and read more in the Newsletter.
As we step into 2025, I encourage each of us to carry forward the spirit of wellbeing and peace, making time for reflection, rest, and the things that truly matter. May the new year bring happiness and prosperity to all, and to those who celebrate different faiths and traditions, may it be a time of peace and joy.
With so many coughs and colds circulating at the moment, I want to wish everyone a speedy recovery and a return to good health in the new year.
Thank you all once again for your contributions to making this year so special. I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating holiday season, and I look forward to continuing our work together in the new year, as we strive for even greater success.
Kind regards
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

2 WEEK DIARY
*What is The Outright Campaign? This is run by UNICEF UK and empowers children and young people to learn about and promote their rights as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). It focuses on amplifying young voices on important global and local issues, encouraging them to take action and make a positive difference in their communities. Through this campaign, children learn about their rights and how to advocate for them effectively.
PE day timetable is below. Please ensure your child is wearing a school fleece or jumper with their PE kit - colour hoodies are not part of the uniform. Trainers must ONLY be worn with a PE kit. Thank you.
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
How can we work together to create peace in our school and community?
How do the World Values help us to do this?
In our school, we call them World Values. Do you know the 5 values? 🧐 They are Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. 🌍🇬🇧 #ValuesMatter
Promoting Peace Through RRSA
Teaching peace through the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) involves fostering an understanding of key rights and encouraging children to develop the values, attitudes, and skills needed to live peacefully with others. Here’s how we teach peace through RRSA principles:
Article 12: Respecting the views of others by promoting active listening and dialogue.
Article 19: Understanding the importance of safety and protection, creating a secure environment for all.
Article 29: Developing respect for human rights, cultures, and diversity to build peaceful communities.
The holiday season is a time for celebration, relaxation and spending well-earned time with loved ones. While this period will hopefully be calm, it’s important that parents and educators acknowledge there are still things we can do to make these weeks as safe as possible for the young people in our care.
Of course, it’s not immediately obvious what can or should be done to stay safe over the festive season. This free guide offers expert advice on the steps you can take to enjoy a less fraught winter break, safeguarding any youngsters who might be present for the celebrations.
