Term 2 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 40 Thursday 5th December 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the final two weeks of term, the school is buzzing with festive fun and exciting events! Every class has enjoyed a trip to the local library, helping us to nurture and sustain our love for reading.
Our value this term is tolerance, and we have been reflecting on how it aligns with mutual respect, anti-bullying, and understanding differences—including respecting those who do not celebrate Christmas. These important discussions have been central to our learning, ensuring that we continue to grow as a caring and inclusive school community.
Our school ambassadors continue to lead by example. The art ambassadors have been hard at work, selecting artistic designs and transforming them into an impressive large-scale backdrop displayed in the hall—congratulations to our talented prize winners! Meanwhile, our English ambassadors faced the tough task of choosing winners for the book character design competition. The winners were awarded book vouchers for the PTA book fair—well done to all involved for their creativity and enthusiasm!
The BIG NEWS!
We are excited to announce that after-school care is coming home to Herbert Morrison! From next term, we will be setting up after-school care on-site. Children will no longer be going to Wyvil for the After School Wraparound Care. This means children attending clubs at school can seamlessly transition into wrap-around care afterward. Look out for the letter coming home with all the details, including how to sign up. We strongly recommend that everyone registers—even if you don’t plan to use the service regularly—so you’re covered for emergencies or last-minute needs!
Thank you for your continued support throughout this term. Wishing you a wonderful festive season!
Kind regards
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

We aim for 95% attendance - we are over this for most classes and overall we are just over 95% for this academic year! This is great news - thank you for your commitment to your child's education.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.

Promoting Peace Through RRSA
Our value of Peace links to Article 29 of the UNCRC: Education must develop respect for rights, diversity, and peace. By teaching respect and conflict resolution, we’re building a harmonious and inclusive school community.
In our school, we call them World Values, but this rap refers to them as British Values. Do you know the 5 values? 🧐 They are Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. 🌍🇬🇧 #ValuesMatter
The rise in awareness of mental health issues has given way to several easily accessible services to help with such problems – for example, wellbeing apps promising to serve as an assistive tool for anyone in need of support. While these can be useful to some, there are a few risks which are important to consider – especially if a child or young person is using the app.
Of course, it can be tricky to know exactly where the safety concerns lie with a service intended to help and support its users – and it can be harder still to safeguard younger users. This free guide breaks down the online safety risks of mental health and wellbeing apps, before letting you know how best to keep children and young people safe if they ever wish to use these services.
