Term 6 2024 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 33 Thursday 18th July 2024
Dear Parents, Carers and Staff,
As we reach the end of another successful year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we've had together. This year has been filled with hard work, achievements, and memorable experiences that have enriched our school community.
Firstly, I would like to commend our students for their dedication and enthusiasm. Your efforts in academics, sports, arts, and various extracurricular activities have been truly commendable. Each one of you has shown growth and resilience, and I am incredibly proud of your accomplishments.
To our wonderful parents, thank you for your unwavering support and collaboration. Your involvement in your children's education and your partnership with our teachers are vital to our students' success. Your commitment to their growth is evident, and we are grateful for your trust in our school.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated staff. Your passion for teaching and commitment to nurturing our students' potential have made a significant impact. Your hard work behind the scenes and in the classroom does not go unnoticed, and I am grateful for your continued dedication.
As we analyse our end-of-year results, we shine with pride at the KS2 SATs results. Our students have performed exceptionally well, and these achievements reflect the hard work of our entire school community.

We bid a fond farewell to our Otters Year 6 class as they embark on their new adventures in secondary school. We will miss your energy and contributions, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. We also wave goodbye with heavy hearts to long standing staff members who are leaving to enjoy a well deserved rest. Miss Evelyn (34 years), Mr Shepherd (26 years) and Ms McPherson (1 year) - over 60 years between them! Thank you for your kindest and for leading by example - you will all be very missed.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome our new Wombat Reception Class in September. We can't wait to meet you and start this new chapter together.
As we look forward to the upcoming term, let's carry the lessons we've learned and the bonds we've strengthened into the future. I encourage everyone to take this break to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with loved ones.
Wishing you all a wonderful and restful break. Enjoy your holidays, and I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for the new term.
Kind regards

When do you stop being a child ?
A British survey found that more than one third of parents find that the summer break sometimes leaves them feeling dazed, confused and in need of a holiday themselves! So now that the examination season is over, the pressure is off children and parents, everyone gets to unwind and start relaxing. How can you make sure you are not one of the parents left completely exhausted?
The strategies here may help you.

NHS statistics indicate that the need for mental health support for children and young people in the UK is higher than ever, with 1 in 6 children (16%) reported as being in need of such help. Unchecked worry and anxiety in under-18s is a key contributor to this figure, with roughly 4 in 10 children (37.4%) saying they don’t receive regular support from their school or college
While everyone feels a touch of concern over the future now and then, chronic worry and anxiety can feel unending This can cause significant damage to young people’s wellbeing – such as losing sleep, feeling emotionally drained, and having their school grades impacted It's vital that children and young people suffering from worry and anxiety have effective tools to manage their fears and regain control, and know when to seek further help. This Wake Up Wednesday, we’re offering expert guidance on how to provide that support.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that there has been a change to the Friday Fish vs Fish fingers following a democratic vote led by the children. Fish will be for 2 weeks and Fish fingers will be for 1 week out of the 3 as 30% votes for the fish fingers and 60% votes for fish!
As we roll into summer and the school holidays loom, our minds in libraries turn to those long joyous weeks for the children away from school. In Libraries, of course, we're still here throughout, and we'll be running The Summer Reading Challenge encouraging children to keep reading during the summer holidays, ensuring they are ready for a great start to the new term in the autumn. Children set a reading goal and collect rewards for reading anything they enjoy. Children can sign up here at their local library or online, and it’s FREE to take part.
This year’s Challenge is called Marvellous Makers and it’s all about creativity! From dance to drawing, junk modelling to music, there’s something for everyone. The Challenge starts on Saturday 6 July.
We are also looking for older teenagers interested in volunteering this summer to help with the Summer Reading Challenge for younger children. To find out more ask at your local library.
